The Blessing of God [ Listen | Forward Message via Email ]
In the last message I talked on what the curse is all about, how it tends to death but in this message we will be talking about the blessing of God, which many people have misunderstood. Most people think that receiving a gift like a car or material things is the blessing but the blessing is far from that. The concept of the blessing has been so misunderstood in this generation that people use it when a person sneezes [as said by Kenneth Copeland]. As we go on in this message, we will understand that the blessing is far from what we understand it to be. In an abridged statement, you must understand the blessing is just the total opposite of the curse. The blessing tends to life and increase unlike the curse, which tends towards decrease and death, but it seems that most people understand more about what a curse is than the blessing but the main purpose of the message as led by the Holy Spirit, is for people to really understand what God from the beginning always wanted to give mankind because without the blessing, life will always be a struggle, and that is why it is so important for Christians to understand it.

“And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.” - Genesis 1:22

When God created the animals, He blessed them so that they could multiply, if not they would have gone extinct as we presently experience such because of the curse. It is as a result of the curse upon the earth today we have so many species of animals going extinct. It is said that over 5400 species of animals went extinct between 1500 to 2009, and many more are still endangered towards extinction.

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” - Genesis 1:28

Immediately God created man, He also had to bless him before He sent him to multiply, if not man would not have been able to do what the Lord wanted him to do and that is why God had to bless Noah and his sons after mankind was destroyed by water. Genesis 9:1 says “And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth”.

This is why it is so funny that many Christians make a mistake of trying to operate under the world’s system in making a living and don’t understand that in doing so, they can‘t do the will of God effectively; moreover it is a system bound to fail as it is obvious by now that the world’s system is not presently stable as there is a total economic collapse, and I am sorry to say next year, 2010, will be worse as the Lord has told me. The only way God has made for Christians to overcome this world system is to operate under the blessing of God.

Genesis 2:3 says “God blessed the seventh day”, therefore the first two chapters of the bible was all about blessing, which tells us that God is in the business of blessing and He desires to bless his people.

It was only after the disobedience of man that the curse was set into motion in all of creation because the scriptures says that all of creation wait for a day of redemption from the curse (Romans 8:21-22).

The devil used the serpent to cause man to disobey God and thus God put a curse on it that “thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life”. As for the woman, who obeyed the serpent, God cursed her that she shall have pain in childbirth, and for the earth was curse for man’s sake (Genesis 3:17).

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” - Genesis 12:2 -3

Man had not only fallen because of his disobedience but had also fallen under a curse but God in His infinite mercy sought how to restore man to the position of operating once again in the blessing and thus selected a man who He decided that through him all the nations of the earth will be blessed, and this man’s name is Abraham. God told Abraham to leave his father’s house and go to a place that He will show him and promised to bless him and all his descendants - physical and spiritual. Act 3:25 says “Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed”.

“And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi.” - Genesis 25:11

Abraham having received the blessing for all mankind passed it unto his son, Isaac before his death; and henceforth Isaac lived in the blessing. Most people are used to generational curses but I must tell you as we can see from the scriptures that there is also what is called a generational blessing. That is why you will find out that the children of men who are blessed are also blessed after them. Proverbs 20:7 says “The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him”.

“Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.” - Genesis 26:12

We see the blessing in operation in Isaac’s life when there was a famine in Canaan as the scriptures says that Isaac planted in a time of famine and reaped an hundredfold. This tells us that the blessing is not affected by physical circumstance because the blessing is a spiritual mark of God which attracts good and increase; and it could be transferred from one person to another. So the notion that the blessing is a physical thing is totally out of the question. The blessing always produces physical manifestations, which will always outstand people. The only solution to the economic famine that is affecting the world today is nothing but the blessing in operation in the life of a Christian.

“And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.” - Genesis 27:41

Isaac had two sons, one Esau and the other Jacob. Esau being the elder ought to have received the blessing but Jacob deceived his father to take it. Thus his brother was wrath with him and sought to kill him but Jacob on the advise of his mother ran to Haran to stay with his Uncle Laban whom he served for 14 years.

“For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?” - Genesis 30:30

After the 14 years, Laban said that he was blessed because of the presence of Jacob. You must understand that wherever a person with the blessing is, everything around also becomes blessed and this we also see happen in the case of Joseph, one of Jacob’s son.

“And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.” - Genesis 39:5

Jacob, who was sold as a slave, he caused Potiphar’s house to be blessed due to the blessing he carried.

The blessing was then transferred not to an individual from then but to a people, called Israel. Israel carried the blessing on the condition that they keep obeying God. Deuteronomy 11:26-27 says “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:”

“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” - Galatians 3:16

Israel carried the blessing unto the revelation of the true seed of Abraham who made available the blessing to all the nations of the earth; and this seed is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ demonstrated the blessed life as He made provision for thousands with just a little. Mark 6:41 says Jesus “had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all”. So with the blessing Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fishes to feed over five thousand people with twelve baskets remaining. I believe that in these last days, this method will be a means of feeding in the body of Christ.

“That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” - Galatians 3:14

Jesus Christ planted Himself as a seed with the blessing, that by his resurrection anyone that believes in Him can receive the blessing. In doing this, all mankind now have access to the blessing. That is how God restored the blessing back to mankind through Jesus Christ because God has always wanted to bless man. All that is left for anyone is to activate the blessing in his life because there is a way to activate it. Before Jesus Christ came, only Israel had access to the blessing because they were the physical descendants of Abraham and that is why you will notice that the Israelites flourish more than any other nationality in business but when we get born again, we become the spiritual descendants of Abraham, so that the blessing of Abraham becomes ours. We must understand that becoming born again doesn‘t mean the blessing is active in a person’s life yet but it means that such a person now has access to the blessing but will need to do certain things or position himself by faith to start operating in it.

Definition of BLESSING [Webster’s Dictionary]
The Webster’s dictionary defines blessing as making happy; wishing happiness to; praising or extolling; Any means of happiness; a gift; that which promotes temporal prosperity and welfare. This definition gives us a physical outlook of the blessing because the world sees things from the sensual point of view but Paul said “we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18). Happiness which is one of the definitions of the blessing is a physical attitude which comes when someone receives a gift or a good news, it is temporary but joy is a spiritual attitude which has nothing to do with any physical events. As I said before the blessing is not physical but spiritual. It is a mark of God which attracts good and increase towards someone, and the greatest of this blessing is favour. Favour will give to a man things that money can’t ever buy. Moreover the blessing is far more than riches. The blessing brings riches but it also brings good health and long life because people can be rich but with all their money lack good health and that is why Proverbs 10:22 “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it”. In other words, blessing is far more than riches; therefore bad health, poverty, and bad relationships, etc are a curse and not part of the blessing. The bible says that Abraham was blessed in all things and not just some things. Genesis 24:1 says “And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things”.

Nevertheless, Abraham’s physical blessing was not the true blessing because God specifically said that through Abraham will all the nations be blessed. From this we should understand that the physical materials are not the blessing but a product of the true blessing, which was upon Abraham and now available to all believers.

The Blessing and a blessing

“And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?” - Genesis 27:36

I believe we know the story of how Jacob stole his brother’s blessing in Genesis 27 but in verse 36, there was a mention of two kinds of blessing. The first is the blessing and the other a blessing. Jacob stole the blessing and Esau with tears sought for it but it was too late thus he had to seek a blessing which he got. Hebrews 12:17 says “For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears”.

In these days people run after material things thinking that is the blessing but in those days the true blessing was so precious that it was sought for. This generation has totally lost the true meaning of what the blessing is all about but I believe God using this message will make many have a change of mind to seek the true blessing of God and not its shadow.

Only a blessed man can bless.
There are people carrying the blessing in this generation and it is visible in their life. To such people, they are able to pronounce a blessing on things and others and it will come to pass because only those that are blessed can bless others.

“And Moses did look upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.” - Exodus 39:43

The bible says Moses blessed the people after doing a good work and that Aaron, being the high priest, also blessed people after their offerings to God (Leviticus 9:22). These men had the blessing and thus could command the blessing on others. We should not think that being born again means you have the blessing on your life immediately, but there are certain people who have positioned themselves to receive the blessing in order to distribute it to others as Moses and Aaron did, and most times these are people you find in the five fold ministry.

“And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.” - 2 Kings 4:6-7

Elisha, was a prophet of God who was also working with the blessing. He once met a woman whose husband was dead and who was also in debt (2 Kings 4:6-7). She cried for help and Elisha asked her what he will do for her but she said that she only had a pot of oil in the house. Elisha then told her to get vessels and pour in oil inside each of them. When she did it, it all filled miraculously because a man with the blessing pronounced a blessing. That was the blessing of God in operation.

There was a popular minister of God who had a member that had a business but was having bad sales. One day the minister visited the lady in her shop and commanded the blessing on the goods in the shop and laid hands on them. Within a week, people came from all over to buy everything in the shop. What she could not sell for several months was sold in just a week because a man with the blessing pronounced a blessing.

“And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.” - Mark 10:16

The scriptures also tells us of Jesus laid His hands on some children to bless them. You might not know what happened to those Children because the scriptures never gave record of their life afterwards but if anyone could find out, you will discover that they were blessed in an awesome manner. The blessing can be transferred by touching or laying hands on something or merely just pronouncing a decree; and this we see happen through out all scriptures. Abraham to Isaac, Isaac to Jacob, etc.

How to Release the Blessing
From scriptures we all know that all Christians are blessed as the bible says God has “blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” (Ephesians 1:3), and many Christians claim and confess that they believe this but why are many Christians living under the curse? Why is there no difference between many Christians and unbelievers? In fact, many unbelievers seem to be doing better than believers. Why is this so? The simple answer would be that many Christians are trying to use the world’s system to live in this world and because by nature that are no more of the world, then they fall short, because a fish will only do well in the sea and not on the land. So Christians trying to live in this life the world’s way are like fishes trying to swim on dry land and thus will never do well. The only way for Christians to live in this world is to live under the blessing which doesn’t come into operation by mere knowing or believing it but by an active faith.

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” - Galatians 3:13-14

Galatians 3:13-14 says that we have been redeemed from the curse of the law to start living under the blessing of Abraham through faith in Jesus Christ but faith in Jesus Christ is not a mind set even though it starts from there.

To get a better understanding of the kind of faith the scriptures was taking about let us go back to the Father of faith, Abraham, and see how he obtained the blessing. God told Abraham to sacrifice his son to Him at a particular mountain, and he did obey God. As he was about to sacrifice his only child, then an angel of the Lord called to him and having prevented him from killing his son by divinely providing a ram said “By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice” (Genesis 22:16-18).

Abraham’s faith was an act of obedience to the instruction of God. That is the faith that activates the blessing. Therefore if we must live under the blessing we must be totally obedient to the word of God.

“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:” - Deuteronomy 28:1

The scriptures says that if we hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord and do all He commands us, we shall be blessed to the point that the blessing will overtake us but we should note that obedience has to be with diligence.

“Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee”. - Deuteronomy 23:5

Everything around is competing against our obedience to the Lord, in fact the world’s system is designed in away to take our attention from God. Balaam wanted to curse Israel but could not because they were still obedient to God but immediately they started disobeying God and serving other gods, they lost the blessing and fell under a curse, the same way Adam also lost the blessing to disobedience.

“Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.” - Daniel 6:5

That is why men who understand the blessing do everything they can to obey God, even though it will cost them their life. Daniel was told to do something against the commandment of God or else he will be fed to the lions but he refused to disobey God at the expense of his life; at the end God delivered and honored him.

“Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:” - Deuteronomy 11:26-27

God told the Israelites that living in the blessing is an option which can only be activated by obedience or otherwise they will be living under a curse. Therefore it is optional for Christians to live under the blessing which can only be activated by completely obeying God. Luke 11:28 says “But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it”.

We frequently quote Matthew 6:33 that says “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and every other thing will added to it” but many don’t really understand that it is talking about how we can activate the blessing of God in our lives as believers. We have to do our part to bring the manifestation of the blessing and not just sit in one place hoping for manna neither can you activate it by praying for 24hrs of a day. The blessing is activated and maintained by only total obedience to God.

James 1:25 says “whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed”. So you don’t have to be a minister of God or a special individual to be blessed, it is for whosoever!!! - whosoever that will continuously listen to the instruction of God and diligently obey them. So no matter where you are today, you can change your story today by diligently seeking to obey God with all of your heart. Then only will you enjoy the fullness of the manifestation of the blessing. Exodus 23:25 says “And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee”.

“For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.” Deuteronomy 15:6

The blessing is not only riches as I said and it is not only for a person but to affect the lives of others around them and that is why the scriptures says “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Deuteronomy 15:6 says people that operating under the blessing give and never borrow, even unto nations.

Proverbs 11:11 says “By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted”. We see over and over again in the scriptures that the blessing is given to anyone to bless others, therefore we are blessed to be a blessing. This is the primary use of the blessing and nothing else. Job was the rich man in his time because he was man living under the blessing. From scriptures, we know that he was not only blessing to his family but to every in his nation (Job 1). If we must change cities or nations, we need to activate the blessing in our lives.

Some things you must do to walk in the blessing
I will quickly name some practical things we should do to walk in the blessing.

1. Integrity or in faithfulness
Pro 28:20 says “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent”. Faithfulness is the total obedience to God - this is the foundation of living under the blessing.

2. Giving
Pro 11:26 says “He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it” and Proverbs 28:27 says “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse”. We already said from scriptures that it is more blessed to give than to receive and the blessing is given to bless others. So a man that has the blessing and is not a giver is hindering the operation of the blessing. A blessed man is a channel of God’s provision for others. Therefore giving is compulsory if anyone must live under the blessing.

3. Bless with your mouth always
Matthew 5:44 says “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you”. Jesus commanded us to bless those that curse us and do not repay back with evil. A blessed person should not use the gift given unto him to curse others. We are called to bless and not to curse anyone: we should leave the cursing for God to do. 1 Peter 3:9 says “Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing”.

How to walk in Obedience
The most important key for living in the blessing is to first get born again.

“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:” - Ephesians 2:2

Anyone that is not born again has a spirit that is totally disobedient to God. That is why it will be useless trying to expect a person that is not born again to obey God. It is not in their nature and nothing they do will ever change that except they get born again. It is so sad that many preach obedience to the doctrine of Christ without first getting born again and thus can not truly obey God neither will they enjoy doing it.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” - Romans 10:9

The funny thing is that getting born again is so easy because all the work has been done by Jesus Christ on the Cross. All that is expected of us, is to believe that Jesus Christ actually died and rose again for you, and say a prayer of confession to partake of it. When you do this, you receive a new spirit, the spirit of Christ, so that you can once more be in the image of God as Adam was when he was created, before he could receive the blessing.

If you want to be born again, then simply confess in a prayer right now that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Saviour on the ground you first believe He died and rose again for you.

Prayer for Salvation:
Dear Lord Jesus, I believe you died and rose again for me. Forgive me my sins and come into my life. I confess you as my Lord and Saviour. Help me stop every sin in my life and help to be totally obedient to you. In Jesus name, Amen.

If you said this prayer in faith, I believe that you are born again. So write us because we will like to tell you more about your new life. Moreover you are welcome to the family of the Blessed, but you just have a few things to do to activate the blessing in your life.

Delight in the Word of God and obey Him
If we say we don’t know what to do, then we must study the word of God and obey what God said. Psalms 1:2 says a blessed man, “his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night”, because it is only when you study the word of God that you can know what to do and have the grace to do it.

I discovered that reading the word of God is not only to acquire knowledge as many Christians do but we must also learn to tap into the grace it produces for us to obey God. The word of God is spiritual and when we get born again, we are spirit-beings which then need spiritual strength to do the will of God. Matthew 4:4 says “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”. The main source of spiritual strength is the word of God, that is why I will encourage you as a believer to study the word of God before you go out in the morning. That is why we have many Christians who are born again but find it hard to obey God: they can not obey God because they are spiritually weak and thus their flesh is calling the shots instead of the spirit-man.

Prayer is also Very Important
Prayer is also a very important thing that Christians must do daily if they must obey God. Prayer also strengthens spiritually especially when it is done in tongues (Jude 1:20) and moreover it clears the spiritual way, so that things can work properly in the physical. We can propose a plan but on the other hand, we have enemies planning how to hinder it from coming to pass because we do not war against flesh and blood (2 Corinthians 10:3). Matthew 26:41 says “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak”.

If we take the study of the word and praying diligently, we will find out that at the end of the day, that obedience to God will be a delight and a walk in the park.

“And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” - Gen 32:26-29

The blessing is what we must seek for as Jacob did after wrestling with God said to Him, “I will no let you go until you bless me”, we must learn to seek God that way for the blessing because it has already been given to us. Deuteronomy 30:19 says “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live”.

If we don’t want to obey God for the blessing at least we should consider obeying God because all disobedience is sin.

Conclusion
I believe we now know a little about the blessing, and that the blessing is far more than riches or any material thing but it is a spiritual mark of God on a man’s life which attracts good i.e. the highest of it being favour.

God has always desired to give the blessing to man as He did to Adam when He created Him. After Adam lost the blessing by his disobedience, God sought to restore it back to man, and did through Jesus Christ.

According to Galatians 3:14, the promise of the blessing that was given to Abraham was now made manifest to all mankind through faith in Jesus Christ. Before Jesus Christ, the Old Testament believers answered to the commandment of God through Moses to get blessed but for the New Testament believers we answer only to the commandment of Jesus Christ to be blessed (Deuteronomy 13:1-3).

“Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.” - Joshua 1:7

God told Joshua not to turn away from the command of Moses, then only will he be blessed and we as Christians should not turn from the commandment of Jesus if we must live in the blessing. I said obedience is the foundation of the blessing and that is why we must obey God with all we have got to remain in the blessing.

If we say we don’t know any of the commandments of Jesus then we must know at least that Jesus when He was on earth gave two major commandments.

1. The first commandment was to Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, might and will, and to love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39).

2.The second commandment was to go out into the world to preach the gospel to all creature (Mark 16:15).

Therefore anyone that wants to obey God should be diligent to obey this and God will soon begin to give him other commands. I believe if anyone takes this two things seriously, he already has a strong foundation of operating under the blessing.

“Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.” - Revelation 22:7

I leave you with this, God is coming soon as we see from what is happening around the world today and He is coming to reward those that keep His commandments with an eternal blessing of eternal life and glory. Revelation 22:14 says “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city”. Let us labour to enter into this rest.
