Message Title
I have discovered that anything that must stand the storms of life needs a good foundation. When closely looking at the design of a building, we will notice the foundation is the first thing that is attended to and its depth determines how high the building can be and how resilient it would be in a storm. For example, the Empire State building, which is located in USA with an height of 1472 feet, has a foundation of 55 feet meanwhile a bungalow can just be 2 feet deep or less. Trying to use a 2 foot foundation for a structure like the Empire State building would be pure suicide. No matter how beautiful the structure would look outside or the time and money spent on it, it will all come down with the slightest pressure. This same principle applies to all areas of life - without a root firmly into the ground, a tree would not stand neither will it be able to take-in soil nutrients; without a skeleton, man will have no structure but will be like a totally shapeless amoeba. In this message, I will be focusing on the foundation of Christianity because many Christians are building their lives on a weak foundation, while others are trying to grow using the same foundation of the previous level of Christianity without first working on their foundation and that is why they build a structure of holiness today and it all comes down crashing in a moment. This is one reason why Christianity seems difficult but in this message we will know that once the foundation is established Christianity becomes as easy as God intended it to be. The devil cannot overcome a believer until he is able to weaken his foundation first because he knows that he will only be wasting his time; that is why he patiently sows thorns in our foundation. As we grow up, there are many bad habits that we pick up which later becomes strongholds, even when we become Christians. Most of them we think are a part of us but they are carefully laid plans of the enemy to have access to our foundation. For example, anger can be a stronghold which has subtly attacked the foundation of many Christians; pride, sexual sin, lust for material things and such like are others which we think are just trivial things but are strongholds of the enemy which are built around our thoughts for several years and these are carefully planned out by the enemy to give him access to the foundation of Christians at will; and most times, he uses this strongholds when we are about to receive a blessing, promotion from God or enter into a new spiritual level. “Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.” - Matthew 12:29 Jesus severally taught about the importance of the foundation and in an example said that except you deal with the strong man in your life, you can never have total control over it (Matthew 12:29). “For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” - Psalms 11:2-3 The Psalmists says if the foundation be destroyed what shall the righteous do (Psalms 11:3)? The verse before this verse makes us know that the wicked points their arrow at the righteous to destroy them, and what they actually are pointing first at is the foundation. “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” - 2 Timothy 2:19 If you are wondering how you can recognize a good foundation, then you must know that the product of a good foundation is a life of obedience to God and that is why the scripture says that the foundation of God stands with the seal of a sin-free life (no iniquity) and sin is actually disobedience to God. The devil’s greatest trick is to make you disobey God because he knows that in doing that, he will break the foundation. He caused Adam to disobey God thus breaking his foundation and thus he fell; Samson broke the foundation of his strength and lost his anointing (Judges 16); Saul disobeyed God and he lost his position as King of Israel (1 Samuel 15); and also he attacked Peter by causing him to deny Jesus Christ three times in order to break up his foundation, which led him to backsliding back to his old life, fishing, but thank God for the grace of God. Nevertheless, In another instance, we see a man Daniel, who for nothing was willing to fight unto death to obey God. Daniel was told to stop praying except he will be thrown into a den of lions but he was willing to obey God, even it will cost him his life because he understood this simple secret - the foundation, and God delivered Him. (Daniel 6). “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” - Matthew 7:24-25 Jesus Christ made it clear from scriptures that the foundation of Christians lies on obedience as he described a person that obeys God as one that builds on rock and one that disobeys God as one who builds on sand. He then said, when a storm comes that that on the rock remains but that on the sand falls. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” - Ephesians 6:10-11 So trying to skip obedience to God, will only mean you can never grow spiritually and easily be overcome by the devil. If you read the earlier part of Ephesians 6, before verse 10 it was talking about obedience - obedience of man to God, wife to husband, children to parents, servants to masters, etc, and after this it then said be strong in the Lord and put on the whole armour of God in order to be able to war with the devil. Adam disobeyed God and became subject to the devil, and so will anyone who disobeys God under this dispensation of grace, be overcome by him. James 4:7 says “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”. So a Christian that wants to build his life without obedience would be like one who is building a house without a foundation. A small push will displace such a house from its resting place but nevertheless, the commandments of God are not natural but spiritual. Therefore you will need spiritual energy to be able to build a good spiritual foundation. Moreover, the weapons of spiritual warfare needs to be skillfully used and the only person that can train you to use them is God. David said God “teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms” (Psalms 18:34). “They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.” - Psalms 82:5 The fall of man disconnected mankind from the life and strength of God (Genesis 3) and henceforth, the foundation of the earth was out of course and thus man was rebellious to God, delighting on walking in darkness instead of in the light, and that is why a person that is not born again can never obey God properly. When a person gets born again, he receives the spirit of Christ (John 1:12), so he can reconnect to God to be able to obey Him easily. In order words, God has designed man to receive strength to obey him from fellowshipping with Him, just as electric appliances will not work without electricity. For example, if you put a TV, computer, electric cooker, fan, Air Conditioner, etc. in a house but at the end of the day was not able to power them with electricity, they would not be able to function. Man gives energy to his body by eating at least 2 to 3 meals a day because a lack of food in the body will bring weakness and finally death but when it comes to the things of the spirit, Man is handicapped without connecting to God. All Christians are given spiritual gifts (Ephesians 4:8) but they are useless without our relationship with God; moreover we can only get good direction from God because he is the only one that has the map for our destiny. The key reason why Christians don‘t have a good foundation or are able to obey God is simply because they have no spiritual strength due to poor fellowship with God. Proverbs 24:10 says “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small”. Paul was telling Timothy to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 2:1), if he must be a good soldier of Christ. In other words, he was telling him that if he does not have a good relationship with God, no matter the grace that is upon him, he will not be able to use it. Colossians 1:11 says that we should be “Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness”. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” - Philippians 4:13 There is an inner strength we need, if we must be able to obey God easily; and Paul knowing this said he could do all things by the strength he receives from a relationship with Christ. Jesus himself said “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me” (John 15:4). We can do nothing without God except we stay connected to Him through fellowship as a tree branch can not survive without the tree, but many Christians even amongst ministers work without a relationship with the Lord. Many ministers try to do all the work of the ministry, have several crusades, preach every other day but have either no time of fellowship with God or just a little time fellowshipping with Him. And once this happening, they will soon find out that the progress of their ministry is halted. “And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.” - Mark 11:20 Jesus cursed a tree but immediately it didn’t die but what happened was that it started to die from the root and soon after the leaves started to fall off, and this is the same thing that happens when Christians fail to communion with God but are trying to obey Him to bear good fruits. A person that has lost communion with God might be going on for a while but will soon find out that they start to get tired, distracted and their works begin to die out. This was happening once in my ministry because I had so much work to do and little staff, therefore I had to juggle several things at the same time, and still go out and minister but my time of communion with God was dwindling. There is a difference between studying to preach and communion with God, so ministers should not think that they are the same. Communion is drawing closer to hear and talk with God while studying to preach, might only be an acquisition of knowledge to teach others, which most times doesn’t benefit the preacher. When looking back at my walk with God, I can only attribute everything to one key, my communion with God. “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” - Isaiah 40:30-31 The strength of men, who might be youths, will fail them in the race of Christianity but they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength (Isaiah 40:29-31). Christianity will be difficult and hard for those who try to live it in their strength but only those that wait on the Lord are able to receive strength to live; and when the scripture is talking about waiting, it is not talking about sitting down in one place expecting God to knock them on the head saying wake up sleepy sleepy, receive strength; it is talking about waiting on the Lord in a time of communion with God. God is the only source of unending power and that is why we need him always. God is the rock we build our foundation on, if we must be strong. Isaiah 40:29 says “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength”. Jesus in his time in the flesh, could only fulfill his ministry by having a constant communion with his Father, God. He said “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise” (John 5:19). Jesus passed on this simple secret to his disciples as He told them after his resurrection to tarry in Jerusalem until they are endued with power (Luke 24:49) because God’s strength is required to do God’s work. It is a natural outcome to obey God when you are connected to him because as long as there is a constant supply of electricity a light bulb remains on. 1 John 2:6 says “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked”. “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth” (1 John 1:6). In order words, the proportion of your obedience to God depends on your communion with Him and that is why Jesus also said if you love me keep my commandment (John 14:15). Love is birth in our time of communion because you can never really love who you don’t have a relationship with. For us to have a better understanding of communion let me give you the Webster dictionary’s definition. Webster’s dictionary: Fellowship; intercourse between two persons or more; interchange of transactions, or offices; a state of giving and receiving; agreement; concord. From this definition, we can understand that communion is having a close heart to heart relationship with someone. God’s desire has always been to have communion with man, and that is why He temporarily made an earthly temple when man fell, which He later made permanent by the coming of Jesus Christ, so that all mankind can now have a relationship with God. Becoming a Christian is far more than having your sins forgiven and receiving eternal life but all those are made available, so that man could communion with God. Sin separates us from God and without having eternal life or the spirit of Christ, we cannot fellowship with God in spirit and truth. Once we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, all these are taken care of. This is why you must ask yourself, why do I do what I do? Why do I pray? Why do I read my bible? Why do I obey the bible? If it is not because you love God or you want to please Him, you might just have been living a religious life, and that is why you will find Christianity difficulty. “Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.” - John 9:31 Communion with God is man’s first duty and not the keeping of his commandment because trying to keep God’s commandment without communion is no different from living as an Old Testament believer. Moreover which child will not love to communion with his father: God is your heavenly Father and that is the way we have to see it (Luke 11:13). So far in this message, we have been able to point out that communion is the key for obedience, and obedience is the foundation of Christianity. Building without a strong foundation will only mean you are wasting your time. Try to identify what areas the devil is using to gain access to your foundation, whether it be anger, rebellion, pride or lust and attack it. In the remain part of this message, we will be talking about how to communion with God, personal and corporate communion, the benefits of communion and much more. How to Communion with God Most of the ways we can communion with God is well known to many of us but the problem is that it has been traditionalized and watered down to a mere sense of duty. This is because many walk into a Church, see what others are doing and just adopt that into their life without really knowing why it should be done; and in doing this it loses its effect or power to change a person. Jesus said “Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition” (Matthew 15:6). I believe many Christians have to relearn a lot of things because of the traditions of men that has corrupted the power of the Gospel in the life of many Christians, and that is why we have to go back to the basics - the simple things, which has been overlooked in the Church today, and thus have brought about a weak foundation in the lives of many Christians. 1. Be Born Again The first thing that must be put in place to be able to enjoy communion with God is to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour but many people think they are born again because they are born in a Christian family or because they go to Church but that is far from the truth. To be born again, is to personal decision and confession made after a person has totally believed with full consciousness that Jesus Christ died and rose again. So if you have not grow up to ask Jesus Christ once into your life with full assurance of faith, then you probably still have a chance to be sure because you have to sure of your salvation. There will be a chance for you to say a prayer for salvation as we go on in this message but let me just continue from where I stopped. “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” - Genesis 6:3 Man haven fallen was not able to communicate with God because he was now carnal (Genesis 6:3) but if you must have communion with someone, it has to be with a person in your specie, because dogs can’t associate with lions. God is a spirit and man being spiritually dead could not relate with God again, but it was God’s intent to restore man back to his own image and likeness once more, and this he did through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came into the world as a sacrifice for sin and that by his resurrection we receive a newness of life by faith. John 1:12 says “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” - Romans 10:9 All you really have to do to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour is so easy because Jesus Christ has done all that needs to be done. The scriptures says that once you believe Jesus Christ died and rose again for you, you then have to confess it and receive the gift of salvation. If you believe this, then say the prayer below believing what you are saying. Prayer for Salvation: Dear Lord Jesus, I believe you died and rose again. I confess you as my Lord and Saviour. I ask you to forgive me my sins and come into my life. Thank you father for doing this. In Jesus name, Amen. If you just said this prayer in faith, I believe you are born again and now have the Spirit of Christ whether you feel it or not. You are now a child of God and can now communion with your Father, God. So write us at info@revelationtoend.org to share and tell you more about your new life. 2. Know the Person of the Holy Spirit “Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” - Isaiah 28:16 Immediately you get born again, you must believe and understand that God is your Father, and that He is the only ground that you can plant the foundation of life upon because any other ground is sinking sand (Isaiah 28:16): an understanding of this will help a Christian desire to communion with God besides its benefits, but how can you communion with a God, who seems so far? Communion requires proximity and that why when Jesus Christ was going He said He will send another Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. He is God with us right here on earth and even closer than we can imagine, so we don’t have to think God is far from us. John 14:26 says “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you”. In the Old Testament, everyone had to travel to Jerusalem to meet God in the earthly temple but we as New Testament believers are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16). The Holy Spirit is with Christians once they get born again and becomes in them, when they ask Him into their heart (John 14:17). He is here to teach us all what we need to know about God and empower us to live the Christian life (John 14:26). “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” - Matthew 1:18 Many people don’t really know the Holy Spirit as a person but the bible says He speaks, hears and sees (John 16:13). Those are all attributes of a person. This is a revelation to me and not what I only read because the Holy Spirit has revealed Himself to me several times as a person with a presence. The Holy Spirit is not a dove at the baptism of Jesus, a fire or wind at the day of Pentecost, neither is he the power of God. It is a lack of understand of the scriptures that makes people think of Him like this, in fact the scripture refers to Him as the Father of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:18). If we carefully look at the story at the baptism of Jesus, we will see that the bible only said that the Holy Spirit descended like a dove but didn’t say He was the dove: it was referring to how gentle and calm the Holy Spirit’s movement was and not that He was a dove; and on the day of Pentecost, it only said that there was some appearance like fire, which referred to his countenance which came as a bright light and that there was a sound of mighty rushing wind and not that there was wind - this also refers to the movement of the Holy Spirit. If there was actually fire on the heads of the disciples I am sure Peter and the rest of the disciples would not have been alive to tell the story. The earlier you understand the Holy Spirit is a person and not just a person but God himself, the better for you. There are not three Gods because I said God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are God but there is only one God, which are made himself available in three different forms to deal with the creation. This would be easier for you to understand, if you believe God is everywhere at the same time. He is in Heaven, on earth and with every Christian at the same time. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.” 2 Corinthians 13:14 Once you can believe that the Holy Spirit is a person then it will be easier for us to know that communion with God is the same as communion with Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit. If you call on the name of any of them, you are still be calling on the only God. With this we can now understand why I called this message the Communion of the Holy Spirit, moreover the scriptures refers to this (2 Corinthians 13:14). When we gather together as Christians or in Church, we are actually in communion with the Holy Spirit because He is the God representing God on earth today. We know He is around us by his presence but God wants us as Christians to pass that stage of corporate communion with the Holy Spirit to a place of personal communion with the Holy Spirit. One way of having a personal communion with the Holy Spirit, having understood He is a person, is to ask Him to come into your life. The Holy Spirit is with you when you are born again but when you ask Him to come into your life, He comes to dwell in your spirit. We should not make the mistake of thinking that receiving the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongue but speaking in tongues or prophesying is an evidence that the Holy Spirit is dwelling in you because He gives the utterance to do those things. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” - Luke 11:13 So if you want to receive Him, ask for Him right now in faith by saying the prayer below out loud with your mouth. Prayer for the Holy Spirit: Dear Lord Jesus, I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe in your word that says if I ask for the Holy Spirit, I will receive Him. I ask for the Holy Spirit and I believe I receive Him right now. In Jesus name, Amen. If you said this prayer believing, then I believe you have the Holy Spirit. So just keep thanking God even though you don't feel anything yet, and I am sure you will soon see a manifestation of the reality in your life. 3. Pray Daily and Always “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” - Luke 21:36 Jesus told his disciples to pray always so that they may stand through every obstacle in life unto the end (Luke 21:36), therefore we must agree that prayer is an important element in building a strong Christian foundation. As it is said, a prayerful Christian is a powerful Christian. More than that prayer is a tool made available to mankind by God in order for him to communicate with Him, therefore it is a major tool for communion. I attribute my spiritual growth to a daily time of prayer with God at a particular place, and God communion's with me there. Nevertheless prayer can be done anywhere. Most Christians have adopted prayer as a tool for making their request known to God, while others just pray out a religious act, not knowing who they are praying to, while some even do it to please someone but few make use of it as a tool for communion with God. “But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:” - 2 Corinthians 3:7 When prayer is used for communion it is far more than making a request but its all about pleasing and talking with your father and that why prayers of communion are usually filled with Worship, praise and thanksgiving. One thing you experience in communion with God is his presence and in his presence there is liberty, sanctification and spiritual refreshment. When Moses saw the presence of God, it robbed on him, in a way that people could not look at his face (2 Corinthians 3:7). The more we spend time in the presence of God, the more his presence robs off on and changes us. “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,” - Jude 1:20 When we also pray in tongues, we also have fellowship with the Holy Spirit in ways we can’t imagine. Speaking in tongues is a spiritual exercise that is empowered by the Holy Spirit through your spirit which builds up a Christian up from within and releases the presence of God. “And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.” - Luke 22:41-43 One of Jesus’ source of strength was found in prayer. The bible says he rose up earlier to pray, he sometimes left the crowd to pray (Luke 5:16) and when He was about to face his greatest trial (the cross), he went into prayer for several hours and an angel strengthened Him (Luke 22:41-43). “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” - Hebrews 4:16 No matter what you are facing in life today or whatever is attacking your Christian foundation, all you need is communion with God. The scriptures says we should come unto the throne of grace for mercy and help (Hebrews 4:16). So what are you waiting for? Start working on your prayer life because if you don’t create time for it, you will never have time to communion with God because the world system has been designed to choke out all the time we have. 24hours a day is never enough for us to do all what we have to do but once we understand that prayer is an important part of communion with God, we will create time for it. You can start by creating a daily plan because the funny thing is that most of us know we should pray but get distracted from doing it. Most great men like Daniel, who was said to have an excellent spirit, had the secret of his strength in prayer because all great men have something they do daily, which made them successful. If we must have the similar result, we must inculcate prayer into our life. The thing we must understand is the more time spent in communion with God, the more we have a stronger foundation to build a life of Holiness unto God because you can’t still be using the same prayer time you were using when you were a babe Christian now that you have grown in the Lord. Your prayer life should increase as you grow spiritually. Benny Hinn says he prays 3hrs daily before he leaves his house and I believe that's why his ministry is still growing stronger by the day. 3. Study and Meditate on the Word Another way to communion with God is to study his word and I didn’t say read. Most people read and memorize the scriptures but miss out on the power of the word of God. Psalms 62:11 says “God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God”. God’s word is power and by it He made the whole world (Genesis 1) and this same word has been made available to us through the scriptures. God has said all what he has to say to mankind in this age in his word and only needs to re-echo it through his Holy Spirit to us. Therefore all we really have to do is to read and listen to God through his Word. You don’t have to hear a voice before you know God is talking to you, but sometimes as I am reading through the scriptures, some verses jump at me and get my attention, and immediately I understand that God is trying to tell me something. There are other times, a bible verse just comes to heart and when I read it, I get a message from God. These are different ways the Holy Spirit communion with you through the spoken Word of God. In these times, most people only just read the scriptures just to know the promises of God and the things that tickle our flesh, then they miss out on having a relationship with God through his Word. From the scriptures we can get to know these four information: 1. The knowledge of God 2. What God has said concerning us (Who we are in) 3. His promises to us 4. History of Christians and mentorship It requires us to know the God of the promises and believe on what he has spoken about us before, we can believe and receive of what He has said. That is why I say again, Communion with God is paramount in Christianity. So read the bible not because you want to acquire knowledge only or to fulfill all righteousness but because you want to first know the person behind it all. “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” - Matthew 4:4 The more you read the Word of God, the more you grow spiritually because it is the only food for the human spirit, which will mean that the more you grow spiritually, the more that is expected of you to study the Word of God to keep a strong foundation because a man cannot eat the same amount food as that of a child but nevertheless many Christians are distracted from reading the Word and the scriptures says that Satan comes to steal the Word from our heart once it is spoken (Luke 8). If you must enjoy the power that is in the Word of God, you must pay attention to it and the process of doing that is called meditation. Meditation is one of the things that is missing in the Church today. Meditation is a continuous speaking, reading and listening to a verse or verses of scripture till it is digested into your spirit by the help of the Holy Spirit to produce a change of mind, and finally a physical evidence. So you might hear and read the Word of God, and not enjoy its benefit, except you meditate on it. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” - 1 Peter 2:2 As I said before, you can never grow as a Christian if you don’t read the Word of God (1 Peter 2:2) and if you have been reading it before and you stopped, you will find out that your foundation becomes weak and you soon fall as a Christian. You will even be surprised that old habits that you thought you had overcome now easily overcomes you. This is why I will advise Christians to read the bible daily and often as they can; they should also put preference to it. When we pray and read our bible daily in spirit and truth, we will find out that we will be able to mortify our flesh and strengthen our human spirit, so that obedience becomes easy. My best advice to Christians is to try to read and pray for at least one hour each day; and also meditate on the scriptures throughout the day. We should not do all these things religiously but in order to communion with the Holy Spirit, so that the Holy Spirit can strengthen and lead us. Romans 8:14 says “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God”. Personal Communion and Corporate Communion Even though personal communion with God is important, we should understand corporate communion is also important because Jesus promised to be where two or more Christians are gathered in his name (Matthew 18:20), and the scriptures also say we should not forsake the gathering of brethren. This is because corporate communion brings a greater impact of God’s power because we are a body and not separate entities. 1 Corinthians 1:9 says “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord”. So when Christians come together and put Christ as the focus of their union, they will enjoy more of the benefits of redemption. “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” - Acts 2:42 We can communion together as the earlier Christians did by (Acts 2:42): - Listening to the Word together “ That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” - 1 John 1:3 Many of us already have a Church we attend but we should not come together because we want to be entertained by a minister but to communion with Christ. This is one mistake that is been made in the Church today, to the point that people idolize ministers and will not come to Church if that minister is not coming. Is the Church set up for that minister or for Christ? You should come to Church to meet God and if God is not in that Church, then you are probably in the wrong one. - Breaking of Bread together “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?” - 1 Corinthians 10:16 Jesus Christ broke bread before He was Crucified and commanded us as Christians to do this in remembrance of Him. The early Christians did this and so should the Church of today. There have been some cases were people got healed because they took the Holy Communion; the Holy Communion also releases the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. - Praying together We have to understand that praying individually is different from praying together because praying together attracts more of the Lord’s presence and moreover, God promised to answer such a pray. Matthew 18:19 says “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven”. - Giving to Other Brethren Giving is more than just a transfer of materials but it brings a connection between the parties involved. For example, God gave his son Jesus Christ, so that He could connect with us. When we give to others, we partner with them and fortify unity. In earlier beginnings, we see the Church partnering with other Churches to help and in such ways, they are identified with each other and also give glory to God (Roman 15:26). “For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem” (Romans 15:26). Unyoke with Unbeliever Even though we can talk with unbelievers, we have to do it in view of preaching to them. We should not be equally yoked with unbelievers by saying or doing the same things they do. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness”? Some Benefits of Communion 1. Direction - Acts 13:2 2. Learning - 1 John 2:27 3. Confidence - 1 John 2:28 4. Mortification of the Flesh - Romans 8:14 5. Strength to be Obedient - 1 John 1:6 6 Spiritual Cleansing and Forgiveness - 1 John 1:7 Conclusion I believe you now know that the foundation of Christianity is very important for Christians to live a holy and overcoming life in order to be fruitful, and this foundation is built by obedience. Satan knows this, and fights our obedience to God foremost. I established from scriptures that obedience comes from communion with God because man needs God’s strength to do God’s will. We can commune with God once we are born again because we are his children. We can commune with Him by prayer and the study of the Word of God. Many Christians know this but get distracted from doing it but the more you spend time with God, the more you have a strong foundation in Christ; and thus obedience to God becomes easy. I admonish you that once you see your prayer and bible study time diminishing, do something about it and don’t wait for it to get to a complete stop, else you might find it hard to pick up. 2 Peter 2:20 says “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning”. There are many Christians who are stuck in a sleepy state in their prayer and bible study life but I believe this day that the grace of God that has kept me strong even in times of weakness will strengthen your prayer and bible study life. I believe this message has blessed you. If it has, then I admonish you to tell and email it to others. If you have any comment us let know by email us at info@revelationtoend.org. Please keep praying for and supporting this ministry. Remember to watch Revealing God on SpiritWord Channel, Thursday 2pm (Nigeria Time). God bless!!!
