Naturally man sees things more in a pessimistic view than in an optimistic view because since man`s fall, he naturally adapted to condemning things rather that edifying or complementing things, and that is why we hear more evil report today on News than good. The first thing that Adam did after his fall was to judge himself of not being worthy to be in God` s presence and this is one major problem in the life of many Christians today. Many Christians are living under condemnation and thus are living a life of bondage even after God came as Jesus to set them free (Romans 8:1). Condemnation comes as a consequence of a judged sin, and judgment can either come from ones self or from another or should I put this way “Condemnation is a natural consequence or reaction of judgment of an offense or sin”. When man was asked by God why he disobeyed Him, he immediately pointed two accusing fingers - most people usually think that man only blamed the woman for tempting him but man actually first blamed God before the woman. He said, “The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat” (Genesis 3:12). Indirectly, he was saying to God “the reason I did what I did was because of the woman you put in my life: if she had not been in my life I would never have disobeyed you”. And this didn`t stop there, the woman blamed the devil and from that time on man has conformed himself to judging things to condemnation, and that is why most people will always see a glass half empty than half full. This is one reason why most Christians are not able to appreciate God for the little they have: they want everything okay but I must tell you the truth that as long as you are in this world, you will always have problems because as one problem is being resolved another is rearing his ugly head; so if you are waiting for everything to be all good before you thank God, you may never get that chance in your lifetime. The simple fact of faith is learn how to cast your cares on Jesus while thanking Him for the little He has done as Jesus did with five (5) loaves and tw0 (2) fishes before he feed five thousand (5000) . My point is that man is used to judging things to condemnation nevertheless it is not the fact that a person makes a judgment that is wrong but that they judge to condemnation. Judgment can either lead to edification or condemnation but man naturally judges to condemnation and condemnation is a pronouncement of death or rejection as a result of negative judgment. When Jesus was judged, he was sentenced to death having been falsely accused. Matthew 20:18 says “the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death”. “And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation” - Romans 5:16 After the fall of Adam, all that came after him where born sinners and thus lived a life of condemnation because sin is what has to be judged to condemnation. Romans 5:18 says “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation”. Even before the law came into light, sin has always brought condemnation because Sodom and Gomorrah were sin-filled country is the Old Testament, which when judged fell under condemnation to death. “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:” - Romans 5:20 When the law came to light, condemnation increased instead of sin to decrease; the reason was due to the fact that a spiritually dead man was not able to stop sinning and the law could only point out what he should not do: it was only a set of rules of don`ts – don`t steal, don`t commit adultery, don`t be covetous, etc. Therefore the law of God which was to prevent sin couldn`t do that but instead made the offense of man more glaring and thus condemnation increased (Romans 5:20), and that is why the scriptures says the Old Testament lived under the ministration of condemnation (2 Corinthians 3:9). That is why sin was instantly punished under the Old Testament and the law of retribution (an eye for eye) also was practised. Deuteronomy 25:1 says “If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked”. In fact one thing we must understand as Christians is that in this new dispensation of grace, we are not mean to judge people but apparently, many Christian, even the Christian leaders, are doing this without knowing. Most times many minister of God, in trying to correct Christian doctrine condemn others who are not like-minded in understanding in some areas of the gospel like them (in this I am referring to a biblical doctrine which has not eternal value or will not effect the salvation of others), and most of the times this is done in ignorance but once you are belittling someone, backbiting, or talking evil about someone else, you are condemning them and that is a sin. In fact judging others to condemnation is one of the commonest sin in the body of Christ today; ministers are not preaching the gospel again but have become judges on TV and puppets, judging what another minister said or is doing: I see this as a share waste of air-time because the gospel is meant for edification and correction and not condemnation of others. Moreover most times people judge wrongly because they are judging from rumours or from a man`s single mistake - the fact that a pastor or Christian made a mistake once doesn`t mean it should be assumed that he has been doing this and will always do it. Judging to condemnation never gives room for change or correction rather makes a negative conclusion but that is not the way God acts to anyone. Judging outward or by the outward can be very misleading; the fact is that some people pretend to be good outwardly but are something else inwardly; that is what is called hypocrisy. So most times when we judge by what we see or hear, we may judge wrongly. Jesus said to the pharisees “Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me” (John 8:15-16). We have to learn from Jesus Christ, our perfect example because he never judged others to condemnation while He was on earth and even after his resurrection but has set a day for judgment. He told the pharisees that even though He judges his judgment would be to correct because he would not judge anyone outwardly. The pharisees once brought a woman that was caught in adultery to Jesus tempting Him by asking whether they should stone her to death according to Moses` law, which I said was under a ministration of condemnation but Jesus said to them, “he that has no sin should cast the first stone”; they knowing in their heart that they all at one time in their life had also made mistakes dropped their stones and left one by one until the very last. Then “Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?” (John 8:10). It is so funny how quick Christians are willing to judge fellow-believers without trying to first help. The Church is the only institution where a fellow-soldier for Christ is wounded and instead of another helping out, they instead put a gun in his head to finish them off or crucify him. Other religions would not do that to their fellow-mates but yet the body of Christ who preaches love are far from what they preach or in truth are not behaving in their new nature. Love is an inherit character of every born again person and it is not just a doctrine. Ask yourself this question “what would I do if you caught someone in adultery, Will you condemn him or help him or her out of it?” It will be even more unwise to judge sinners because sinners naturally sin; it is their nature to sin and they can easily be influenced by the power of sin because they don`t have Jesus Christ or the seed of love in them. Our goal as Christians to them is to tell them of the gospel of Christ and how it can save them from their sins in order for them to have an eternal inheritance and life in Christ through blood. Paul said “For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?”(1 Corinthians 5:12). God by his grace has allowed me to know a little about Him; he has never one day condemned me even when I make mistakes or disobey him, even though he has convicted me of sin, not to condemn me but to correct me; He has also directed me out of such bad situations which I by my stupid actions caused. God always sees us as how he created us and not how we are behaving or might feel right now; he tries to encourage us not to give up at our present position but move on to be the very best we can. In every man, no matter how bad he might seem to be right now, God can make them the best they can ever be in Him. So no matter where you are in life today, just know God still loves you and is willing to help you, if only you will seek Him for help. Man is so much used to lifestyle of impatiently trying to get help from someone and somewhere else other than God but as Christians we have to learn to get our absolute help from God because no matter how weak you are in any area of your life, all you need is God`s grace to overcome that weakness. So why not ask for God`s help today and stop struggling to do it on your own? “Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” - Luke 18:10-14 One other stupid thing that we all have done and many are still doing without knowing it is comparison with one another. One person may be saying “I am better than you or you are better than me”, which leads to strife and envy in the body of Christ but this should not be so in the body of Christ. You might not be where you ought to be right now in Christ but you will get there one day if you build a relationship with Him and be totally obedient to him; if you start comparing yourself with others, you might get comfortable where you are because you will feel you are better or you might resent others because you feel they are better than you. “Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.” - Luke 18:10-12 Jesus was talking about two men, one a Pharisee that was feeling self-righteous by justifying himself; the scriptures said he was praying to himself and not praying to God (Luke 18:10-12). When you start judging others you are no more looking unto God but at yourself, thinking that it is by your own ability you are righteous before God. God is the justifier of men and no man can justify himself before because God is the chief judge: whatever He says is final regardless of what others say about you. If we are to compare ourselves with anyone, we should do that with Jesus Christ who is the measure of the stature of every believer (Ephesians 4:13). Jesus said if a servant is perfect, he will be like his master (Luke 6:40), so therefore once we move into perfection as Christians we are like Jesus Christ in every way. So the best person we can ever be like as Christians is not be someone else but like Jesus Christ but when we start comparing ourselves with other men or thing, we will limit ourselves in moving forward to be the best God has for us. For example, if a man that is matured in Christ starts to compare himself with a babe in Christ, he will fall in the condemnation of pride and will also be judging the other person to condemnation; on the other hand, if a babe Christian starts to compare himself with another Christian that is more matured than him, he might fall into condemnation and envy: this will lead to envy when he judges him to condemnation and self-condemnation when he judges himself as a failing Christian, one that something is wrong; not realizing that they didn`t just get to that state in a day but as a child takes time to grow to maturity, so does a babe Christian need time to grow. There will only be a problem, if a Christians remains stagnant for a long time. “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:” - Romans 12:4 Moreover, we not have the same grace and the same calling which means we are all unique in the body of Christ and the only thing that should be the same is our character (the fruit of the Spirit). We will not appreciate God creating us all different except we see the reason why. Imagine if everyone in this world looking alike, with the same fingerprint and character, the world will be monotonous and a boring place to be because it is normal for man to get tired of whatever he is doing repetitively without a change for a long time. When I wanted to get marriage I had a list of things I wanted in my wife; I wanted a woman that liked what I like and was interesting in what I was interested, or to make it short a woman that I was compatible with in every area; so that is what I prayed for but God gave someone else that was best for me and what I thought was best for me. Guess what, God gave me a wife but not exactly what I prayed for. We are nearly totally different but now I know God knows what is best for us and most times it is what we think is best for us initially. God says in his Word, “as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His thoughts higher our thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9). The more we fellowshipped together in marriage, the more I understood and appreciate God for his choice for me: in my area of weakness my wife was strong and her area of weakness I was strong, which made us together complete. This is what the Church must understand that our uniqueness put together makes us complete in Christ, because you might see one Church focused more on prayer, another more on evangelism, another reaching out to the poor, needy and delivering those that are oppressed but at the end of the day Christ is glorify and men are set free to glorify His Holy name; and this is why Churches should not judge each other over their differences, especially over differences which are not required for eternal salvation, rather I encourage them to embrace the different flavours of each ministry or arm of the body of Christ in love. If everyone in the body of Christ are doing just the same thing, then who will they minister to or who will do the singing and other things in the body of Christ? There is no member in the body of Christ that are fully functional in every area of work because most times God gives the visionary a vision of his assignment which are usually unique in nature. So expecting one Church to be exactly like another is wrong and most times leads to one condemning the other. The scriptures says that those that compare themselves with others are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12 says “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise”. “If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse” - Job 9:20 More than the fact that judging other to condemnation is on the side of foolishness, it is also a sin and in fact the most common sin that body of Christ is committing without even know it. Even Jesus said “by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” (Matthew 12:37 ). Most Christians are able to escape sin to the point of being morally upright but get stuck when it comes to the use of their mouth. The sin committed by the mouth is far more and harder to deal with than any other sin in the body of Christ. James 3:6 says “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell”. “And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” - Luke 18:13-14 In the story of the two men in Luke 18, the second man, the publican a sinner, was seeking for God`s mercy for is numerous sins and he got it. Jesus said that the sinner was was more justified than the Pharisee who had more works but was judging others because judging others is a sin that can nullify all your good works. James 1:26 says “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man`s religion is vain”. Thirdly, when we judge others we are taking the place God as a judge over His commandments instead of being doers of it. God called Christians to obey His commandments and not to be going around judging others (James 4:11); moreover when you judge you are setting up yourself to be judged and it will beginning in the same measure; its output rewarded to you will be by men in an increase measure because it will be assumed that you ought know what to do, since you have been judging others in that area. That is why some people can make simple mistakes but instead of enjoying God`s mercy they reap a full dose of the consequences of their actions. God cannot be mocked that He is partial, whatever a man sows he must reap (Galatians 6:7). Romans 2:1 says “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things”. When you are judging others, God starts judging you also in this life and not only on the day of judgment because Jesus said judge not so that you will be judged (Matthew 7:1). If you judge someone harshly, God will judge you harshly when you make a mistake. Luke 6:37-38 says “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:37-38). God has set His judgment for the last days even though some men`s judgment are made manifest in this life because it has reached a point where God`s mercy is over because of their continuous and conscious evil deeds without repentance even after knowing the truth (1 Timothy 5:24). “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” - Revelation 12:10 The last thing we must understand about judging others to condemnation is that it is the work of Satan, so anyone doing it is motivated by Satan to bring discord and division in the body of Christ. The scriptures calls Satan, whose name by the way means “slanderer”, the accuser of the the brethren, who accuses men before God day and night. The dictionary meaning of the word Slanderer is “A defamer; one who injures another by maliciously reporting something to his prejudice”. From this meaning, we can see that judgment to condemnation is the devils works, which he does daily using ignorant people. In Genesis 3, Satan came to Eve slandering God by accusing God that He was lying about the reason why He said they should not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of God and evil and also slander Eve that she was not in the image of God – belittling her, whereas she was already in the image of God. The devil has no power over any Christian but his greatest tricks against Christians is deception and slandering (judging to condemnation). When slandering, the devil can both use what is a fact or a lie to condemn a person. He came before the presence of God because he had the authority of man which he no longer has, and slandered Job before God, saying that Job was serving for gain, and the scriptures says he is still doing it till now (Revelation 12:10). The greatest work of Satan in the Church right now is to make men slander each other and God. He goes around to make sure men talk evil about each other by sowing seeds of discord and paint wrong imagines in the mind of men about each other, and this also applies in marriages. Most marriages and relationships break up because people miscommunicate, misunderstand each other because a third person, the devil who they don`t know is in their midst to trigger a discord; it is no one`s intention in a relationship to start up a quarrel nor did anyone enter into a marriage with thoughts of a divorce. It obviously seems the devil has being winning in this area because over 50% of Christian marriages end up in divorce in America and not to talk of right here at home. That is why we have to learn to talk to each other about our feelings, especially when we feel someone has said or done something wrong to us, instead of assuming things or swallowing up rumours which leads to division in any relationship. The interesting thing is that a person might not have known that his actions were bad, but by the time you tell him, he will be able to apologize and repent; and you in turn can healed of that hurt. There are many things we do as Christians, we think are right but at the end of the day may be wrong. God has dealt with me in this area several times concerning things I thought I was right according to my incomplete knowledge but at the end I was wrong. We must be opened for correction if we must make our relationships work out. On the other hand, the devil has also tried to separate men from God as it has been his custom because we can easily deduce this from the incident that transpired in the garden of Eden: Satan slandering God, so that man could mistrust God, and thus disobey Him. There are many people which the devil has lied to in this times that God does not love them either because of their numerous mistakes or that God has not forgiven them for sins they have confessed over and over again, thus living under condemnation. These are all plans of the devil to separate man from God. Once a person is under condemnation, he feels disconnected from God but God came to died for us not because we were good and perfect but because He loves us and wants us closer to Him. So once you are born again, you must understand that you must learn not to live under condemnation even though you made a mistake. Condemnation comes as a result of sin but thanks be to Jesus Christ, who by His blood has brought forgiveness of sin to all mankind. So once we sin and ask for forgiveness in faith, God forgives us our sin as promised in his word (1 John 1:9) because of the shed blood of Jesus Christ through His sacrifice on the cross. If we doubt it at anytime, then we are saying that the blood of Jesus Christ can only forgive some sins and can`t forgive some others, which is not true. The only time the scriptures says that the blood of Jesus will not forgive sins is when we have a revelation of the truth about what we are doing and we still consciously go ahead do it (just as Adam did). God will forgive you but you will have to face the consequences of your action. Moreover, the devil also tries to slander God, so that men will despise God, as he did to Eve. He was painting a picture in Eve`s mind of a lying God but God is true to his Word; If He promised you something and you have not received it yet, then it is either it is not time yet or that you are the one causing the delay due to doubt. Abraham was promised a child but he only got it at the old age of 100years. “But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.” - Job 2:5 Most people start to hate and despise God, when something bad happens in their life and some even do it for something so trial as just losing a job or car. This is one way the devil has turned may to despise God. There was a man who lost his child to an ailment, and people said it was God that took him away quickly; because of this, this man said, “if it is God that took away my child, I hate Him”, and since then he hated God all his life. We should ask ourselves this question, “why would God want to take away a child He brought into this world for a purpose quickly?” We blame God for too many things that we cause for ourselves or that the devil causes. In the case of Job, the devil took aways his family, workers, business and health all in a moment of time, expecting him to despise and curse God but because he was not serving God for those things, he never despised or cursed God but instead worshipped. From this story, we see that God has never been the cause of evil. Most of the natural disasters that the world is experiencing today is because of the atomic bomb that were tested under the ground or harmful carbon emissions but ignorant men will blame God. Don`t you wonder why the less developed country like in Africa has less problem of earthquakes and hurricane! If you are one of those that have turned your back on God for such stupid earthly and sensual things, there is hope for you to repent because God still loves you and will receive you wholeheartedly back as the prodigal child was received back by his father with joy. God wants the best for you and wants to take you to a beautiful and glorious future, so understand that He will never do any evil to you (Jeremiah 29:11). Most evil attacks are just ways that the devil tries to make sure men despise God and get separated from God, who is their only hope in life and the life to come. God wants to show mercy and desires us as Christians to do likewise to others even more than the service we render to Him, instead of judging others to condemnation. Matthew 12:7 says “But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless”. The funny thing is that condemnation can also comes from us judging ourselves as been not worthy to have a relationship with God or count ourselves as a sinner, which leads to self-condemnation as we can see in the case of Adam but this should not be so in this dispensation but there are still many Christians who live under self-condemnation. Condemnation should not be part of the Christian life if not Christians will not be able serve God acceptably or with boldness once it is present. Romans 8:1 says “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit”. Once you are born again, there is a way to stay out of self-condemnation because many Christians fall into the trap of the devil of living under condemnation due to the fact that they are not totally obedient to God or are living in a sin, which makes them feel separated from God but God`s desire is for you to come closer to him, so that He can help you because no man can be like Christ without the help of the God through his Holy Spirit. So you must realize you need his help because self-condemnation is as a result of pride or lack of understanding. Most people that quickly fell self-condemnation have pride because they are try to get justified in their strength and not by the help of God; moreover self-condemnation weakens our faith. 1 John 3:20-21 says “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God”. So don`t let any make you feel self-condemned. God instead condemning you is praying for you to stand and overcome your weaknesses by his grace. Romans 8:34 says “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us”. Don`t let the devil talk you into self-condemnation because you must realize that no one can make you feel self-condemned expect you believe their lies because Jesus Christ is the one that died for you, so it is no ones business if you sinned or not; it is only Jesus Christ you answer to. What I do if the devil is trying to pressure me to remind me of a sin in order to make me feel self-condemnation I quickly ask God for forgiveness believing that by the blood I am cleansed from my sins, and If it is something I can repent from I do that immediately. For example, I said something I felt was rude to someone but even though the person didn`t feel so, I had an urge to apologize, and I did. It immediately seems like an heavy weight was lifted off my shoulder; before then, the devil had been trying to talk me into feeling bad, so that I can be self-condemn. You have to believe that the business of your sin has everything to do with God and also that by His blood you can have forgiveness for your sins. If anything is bothering your heart to feel self-condemned, then ask for forgiveness from God and if possible the person you offended, so that you can walk with a clear conscience at all times. And if you are still hearing an annoying voice or impression still telling you in your mind that you sinned, “shout back at it that God has forgiven you already and it is not his business”; I am sure that the annoying voice or impression will leave you alone as it has happened to me. The fact is that as you get more matured and having a good understanding of the power of the blood, then you won`t easily fall into the condemnation of the devil anymore and neither will you fall into his traps to bring condemnation in the first place.
