Cleanliness, Healthy and Holiness [ Forward Message via Email ]
Page: Introduction - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 [ Full View ]
There is a saying that goes like this, “cleanliness is next to godliness” but this is an inverted truth; an inverted truth in the sense that not all clean things are necessarily holy.

“And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.” - Revelation 21:21

Nevertheless, we can say that holiness should produce cleanliness because the picture of heaven that is formed in anyone,s mind from the scriptures asserts this fact; that heaven is a perfectly clean place which you wouldn,t find in it even a speck of dirt. The scriptures says that the streets in heaven are made of pure gold, which were as transparent glass: if you are accustomed with gold, you would know that gold shines and reflects like a mirror the more there the absence of impurity.

We also know from scriptures that the angels and saints in heaven are all dressed in pure white linen (Revelation 15:6). It is certain that only a pure thing can produce purity, so therefore if heaven is pure, we can say the creator himself is pure; and that is why when you get born again, God the source of purity starts to work on you to purify you to become more like Him. 1 John 3:3 says “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure”.

“[Hell is a place] Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” - Mark 9:44

On the other hand, we have a place called hell which is a sharp contrast of heaven in the sense that hell is everything absent of God. It is a filthy place that is full of darkness, no air nor water, and is filled with the most unimaginable horror that the world can not fathom. Though some people say hell is not real, you must imagine that if there is a God then there must be a devil; and if there is a heaven then there must be a hell. So no one should deceive himself just because he selfishly wants to avoid obeying God,s commandments and have his own way, and thus say there is no God nor hell. My advise for such people is to tell them to consider the fact that if they happen to be wrong, they will suffer eternal loss in hell. A person that is born again and has a relationship with God will be on a safe side either ways, if there is a heaven or not: you will not lose anything to believe there is a God and do good but if otherwise, its a 50% gamble with your future.

Now let me bring to your understanding the difference between pure and clean because you might think they mean the same thing but they are not. The Webster,s dictionary defines “Pure” as free from mixture; Free from moral defilement; without spot; incorrupt; holy and “Clean” as to remove all foreign matter from.

From this definition, we can understand that a thing is pure when it is found in its best or original state but a thing is clean when the impurity in it has been removed. So what we must understand is that everything was initially created in a pure state until man fell in the garden of Eden and this led to a spiritual death which produced defilement in the soul; the defilement of the soul led to the defilement of the body, and that lead to the defilement of the environment.

Most of the natural disasters in this days are caused by man for the fact that man haven populated the earth has defiled his environment and has polluted both land, sea and the air. The earthquakes, hurricanes and flooding are mostly the fruits of the the seeds that mankind has been sowing for over 6000 years. Even though your actions might not show a physical consequence immediately but they will in the future, if you continue watering it by repeating it. For example, if a young child of about 12 years starts to take a lot of sugary things into his body, its consequences might not immediately be noticeable but when he is much older he might have diabetes. And if you are saying I am a Christian that this won,t happen to you because the scriptures says “by the stripe of Jesus I am healed”, then I must say why suffer yourself to seek divine healing and not divine health. Divine health will keep sickness from you but divine healing will always welcome sickness because of reckless living and then seek for God,s power to bring deliverance. Don,t get me wrong you could still do everything right and get attacked in your body as Job was (Job 2) but what I am trying to point out is that most of the diseases that people experience in life is because they gave room to the devil by sin or careless habits like wrong diets, uncleanliness of the soul and flesh, and unforgiveness. Most diseases that people treat with drugs can be avoided if they eat a balanced diet and live a clean. For example, mosquitoes like dirty environment and stagnant waters, therefore a clean environment with not accommodate them and thus malaria will be averted.

It will surprise you to know that many ministers in the body of Christ have died at an earlier age because they focused more on the spiritual and neglected the body but you must know that body also needs to be taken care of. For example, Kennith W. Hagin, a great minister of the gospel, who has gone to be with the Lord, was ministering on the stage once but fell down unconscious; this is a man who was totally dedicated to the Lord but because he didn,t realize that he should take of his body, he neglect it. In the Hospital, he asked the Lord why this happened to him, and the Lord told him that he has not been resting. Even Jesus, who was God in the flesh, was tired (John 4) and took time to rest. So we must not misunderstand spirituality as completely neglecting the body, if not you should try not eating at all and see if you can substitute it for with the word of God. Jesus after fasting for 4o days was said to be hungry, and the devil used that opportunity to tempt Him but Jesus said “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Which in other words will mean that Jesus was pointing to the fact that the body needs food but that food alone is not sufficient for anyone to live life to the fullest.

Man is made up of spirit, soul and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23) and these three must be individually taken care of, if not a man will be limited in his potential and will not be able to maximize his time and gift on earth to fulfill his divine assignment. I have notice that when I don,t eat properly and I am not fasting, I find out it can affect my reading of the bible or even the way I reason and preach the gospel. Nevertheless, we must be careful of the manner we take care of the body but put it in its right place because the priority in which we must always attend to anything as Christians is in this order: spirit, soul and body.

The two major mistakes that people make in life is that there is a set of people who take care of their body far more than their spirit and thus the spirit is weak: such a person will be led by the lust of his flesh and not by his spirit. Apparently this is where we find many Christians today because many Christians don,t change their priority from carnal things to spiritual things, which leaves them as babe Christians. There is another set that think that Christianity is all about being Holy is the soul and spirit and thus neglect the body. Christians with this mindset might find themselves poor, needy and sick but Jesus didn,t die for you to beg for your daily needs. Christianity has both commandments and principles but some Christians have embraced the commandments and left the principles but the world has embraced the principles and neglected the commandments and that is why we have the world prospering more than many Christians whereas it is meant to be the other way around. You do not glorify God by begging for your daily needs like food but nevertheless we should not take this to the extreme as many are doing in this last days, saying godliness is gain (1 Timothy 6:6). Christianity is not about money but wealth comes along side so that you can fulfill the will of God because you can,t say because I am Christian, I don,t have to do anything again. The first thing God gave Adam was work and not a woman or anything else. Neither can you go to a TV station and tell them I am a Christian, so you must give me Free Airtime.

Many Christians are beggarly despite the fact that they love God just because they neglect the principles and embrace the commandments of God. Jesus had just brought back to life a young girl from the dead but the next thing He said to them was that they should give her something to eat (Mark 5:43). So we see both the miraculous and commonsense at work; He would just have told them to let her go but He rather pointed out the fact that there are principles we can,t neglect as far as we are in this flesh. Mark 5:43 says “And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat”.

When I enter into ministry, I completely left my programming work, thinking that was what God wanted me to do, but I didn,t realize that God didn,t want me to completely leave my programming job yet. My mistake was that I thought that once you are entering into ministry, you have to completely forsake your work but I didn,t understand that sometimes God might want to take you through a transition period into ministry. Nevertheless, there are times God will tell you leave completely, so I am not say that God can,t say that but I realized if God didn,t tell you to, then don,t because God never told me to leave my work completely to start a ministry but only told me to start a ministry. I had only assumed that was how it is done but I must admonish you that you should do only what God has told you to do and not what he hasn,t. You can overcome this mistake by taking counsel and seek the face of God.

Assumption is a great danger in Christianity because that is one of the things that has brought error to the gospel. Sometimes God will not say anything to a person when we he assumes because God wants and expects us as Christians to realize that we need to depend on Him completely and not in our own understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”.

The fact is that there must be a balance between the commandments and the principles of God, if not there with be a deficiency. A person who embraces the principles of God may have financial prosperous life but might loss out eternally on his salvation, while a person that embraces only the commandment of God will secure his eternal salvation but might live a very terrible life on earth. The ideology that says that Christians should not be wealth is a lie of the devil because it profits God nothing to desire that when the earth and fullness of it is his but what God demands is that you should never love money or anything else more than Him or his commandments. Deuteronomy 6:10-12 says “And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage”.

The world is using the opportunity that Christians are not taking their God given position on earth to acquire riches which they are using for their father,s business (devil), simply because many people think that the earth belongs to the world. The TV and radio stations are all filled with all kind of worldly information which only advance the course of the devil. It is time for Christians to wake up and diligently follow God to position themselves in every aspect of life in this last days, so that they can be effective witnesses of Christ.

My point in all this is that the body should not be completely neglected when you get born again but must be attended to in the right priority. The body is a gift of God as much as the spirit is a gift from Him which has his place in this life. Without a body a spirit cannot interact with this physical world and that is why Jesus was to come into this world, He had to take up a body.

Moreover the scriptures says that our body is the temple of God because when a person gets born again, the Spirit of Christ enters into him and at such his body becomes a residing place for Spirit of the living God. This is the more reason why we should value our body enough to take good care of it and the environment around it; we naturally take care of our home and the Church building we fellowship but many at times never take care of the true temple of the living God. An understanding of this truth should not only make take care of our selves for ourselves but also to please the Lord. So being a Christians is not a normal life but is a supernatural life because God, who created the universe, is living in you. You can imagine if the president of Nigeria or United States comes to stay in your house, how important your house becomes to the whole world. Christians have to refute the lie of the devil which tries to be little them that they are worthless, and that God is not with them, when He is actually living in them. You are Important and Priceless, so don,t look at yourself so cheap: that is why God purchased you with the price of himself; how much do you think Jesus is worth, if you can ever buy him? That is the price that was paid to purchase you. Therefore you are expected to glorify God not only with your spirit but also with your body. The scriptures says “know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God,s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
