The Love of Money [ Forward Message via Email ]
All our lives we have been prepared by our parents or someone to make a living for ourselves which all boils down to getting money somehow. We need money in our life to get us the things we need. Every earthly thing has a price on its head and that is why the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 10:19 that money answerth all things. I believe if you have money provided for your daily need, you will not want to go through the process of going to school or work for just the sake of making a living.

And Also in Ecclesiastes 7:12 says that Money is a defence. "For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it." (Ecclesiastes 7:12). If someone was arrested and was told to pay a bail, If he has no money to pay the bail he will stay in prison. If a man had money, he surely will not go through too much to get a visa to another country. If a man has money, he surely will be noticed by this world and given respect. That is why the bible says money is a defence.

The bible never said anything about money being bad but the love of it is the problem and it is bad because it is the root of all evil. That is the problem the world is facing today. This message will be based on 1 Timothy 6:6-10.

"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." - 1 Timothy 6:6-10

The bible says the love of money is the root of evil. All the evil works of men today can all be attributed to the love of money. Let me give you some examples on how the love of money has turned people to murderers, adulteresses, lairs, thieves, selling their soul and much more. Corruption has been one of the great problems plaguing this world. Corruption can simply be described as making an unjust decision for mostly the sake of money. Men prefer to have money rather than a good name these days (Proverbs 22:1). Imagine this world without money; it will mean no corruption. Some have sold their soul to occultic groups to get power and wealth but they don't know that it will only last for a short while. They never consider what is after death. Women have also sold themselves for the sake of money which we all know as prostitution. Fraud is an act of the love money too. We all know fraud as reaping where you do not sow. No man has a right to reap where he did not sow except God. Fraud involves taking money from someone by lying and cheating, all for the sake of money and most times those that fall into the trap are those who want more money too. Stealing has also been as a result of people desiring to have more money. Imagine, if everyone had enough money, do you think people will still steal or there would be none or small records of theft but yet man that are rich still steal because they want more and are not content. The love of money! I have heard of stories were people have killed for the sake of money. Oh yes! lots of stories on that one. Look deep down into every evil today in our society, it has something to do with money. As for Christians, many have erred and compromised their faith for the love of money. As said, time is money to the world. In order to make money in this world's system, you must spend time getting it. So more money requires more of your time. This makes Christians have no time for God's work and thereby not growing or even falling sometimes (1 Timothy 6:8). So to say, getting money the worlds way requires your time and therefore you loose out on some other things. "The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it." (Proverbs 10:22). So when people pursue money, they certainly don't have time for other things which are more important. They do not have time to be with God for spiritual growth in prayer and reading of the bible. They do not have time for their wives and family. They themselves do not have time for themselves and may lose health. Proverbs 10:22 says only God adds riches without sorrow. That means the wealth of this world must surely have sorrow with it. "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:21). Surely where you keep your treasure there your heart is also, So if it is money you love, then your daily living, attention and worry will be focused on that but the bible makes us know in 1 Timothy 6:7 that there is nothing you are taking out of this world as you came into this world without them but in Matthew 6:20, that we should lay our treasure in heaven where we look forward to. "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." (Matthew 6:24). Ask yourself this, who do I serve? God or Money? The one you love is the one you serve. The one that moves you is the one you serve. The one that keeps you thinking is the one you serve.

The solution to the love of money is contentment (1 Timothy 6:6). We should know that we brought nothing into this world and we are taking nothing out but as in 1 Timothy 6:7, be content with what you have and believe God for everything. I believe when a person starts knowing God, he will know that he already has all he/she needs. The bible says seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all of our needs will be met (Matthew 6:33). God is all we need and once you are Born Again, you already have all it takes to live in this world and the next. Seek God today and trust Him. He has never failed me and He will not fail you, if you believe in Him. "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?" (Matthew 6:26). Please note God never said you should not work, in fact He said "Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth." (Ephesians 4:28). Also God never said you shouldn't be rich in fact in 1 Timothy 6:17-19 God talks of the rich helping others.

"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life." - 1 Timothy 6:17-19

But a rich man that can't set his mind on giving is not ready to serve God. We must learn to be able to give all we have to serve God, if God requires it of us. God asked Abraham for his only son and believe me, that was a treasure to him but he was ready to give it to God still. Also in Matt 19:21-24 is the story of a rich man that wanted to serve God but God told him to sell all he has and give it to the poor and follow him but he went away sorrowfully. He loved riches more than God. To serve God is to be ready to suffer and give all you have for Him.

As for many that have been called and chosen to serve God with all their lives (Prophets, Pastor, Teachers, etc), it will be best to do that totally. I see no reason why you still seek to get money the world's way when all you need is to apply the principle of God that says give and it shall be given to you (Luke 6:38). You will err from your calling (it will slow you down), if you take time to look for money. "But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness." (1 Timothy 6:11). Jesus Christ and Paul are good examples to follow, they never thought of how to get money but it was provided for them by God through people. Read about their lives in the book of Matthew and Acts.

I remember one day I said, "Lord I want to be greater than Moses" as I prayed and then I heard a voice in my spirit that said "then give all you have and follow me". I was quiet for a while. It really kept me shut. We all want to serve God but also want to have the best of this world. Thank God ever since then, God has helped me and dealt with me, purifying me towards being able to give all I have, if he asked because I have always kept on praying to God that I just want to serve him and let his will be done in my life. I won't say it was easy at first but I did as God wanted me to do liking it or not. You surely have to go through trials to be purified for God's use.

I will just want to conclude this message by saying that we should try to find out more on the Love of God. The personal revelation of God's love will enlighten your spirit that this world is nothing. Seek God today by searching his word and praying. He alone can help you get through the love of money to the Love of God because God is Love and the only source of true love.
