REVELATIONTOEND DEVOTIONAL - STEPS OF FAITH

Bless God for another wonderful day! I believe you slept well. Today I want to continue on the line of faith because faith is a very powerful force. It is the major key to our success in life, and the good thing is that we all can have it, if we know what to do.

Faith is actually a law, which means it has its dos and don’ts, and its expected reactions and consequences. In other words, it will always work when applied appropriately. It is just like the law of gravity; it has always been working since the creation of mankind. The day it fails, you will find yourself in Mars just by trying to jump up, and obviously we would certainly not be expecting you back anytime soon. My point is that nothing can stop faith from working for you except yourself.

The scripture defines Faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). So let us highlight two words –

SUBSTANCE

and

EVIDENCE

– from this definition, which will form our focus of discussion on Faith today.

These two things — SUBSTANCE and EVIDENCE — are two important steps of working out your faith. If they are not present, then you probably are not taking the right steps to making your faith work. Let us talk about them individually:

SUBSTANCE

The word ‘Substance’ describes something that is concrete, has a body, or that is tangible. The scripture says “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Hebrews 11:3). In other words, faith is a spiritual substance that can be used to create any physical substance.

The first step of faith is to believe in something. And believing is not just head knowledge but converting words to form pictures in your heart that look so real to you, that you feel you can literally touch or feel them. The truth is that before anything becomes a reality on earth, it must first be a reality in the world of faith. But the mistake many Christians make is that they don’t have the spiritual reality of what they are believing for, which makes it impossible for faith to work.

There are many things that we pray for that God has already given us, but they are available as spiritual substances and thus not yet physically tangible. If we don’t believe that we already have them spiritually, then we will lose them in the spiritual realm and never see tangible results in the physical. The scripture says “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them” (Mark 11:24).

EVIDENCE

Once we can believe we have what we prayed for as a spiritual substance with us, this ought to produce physical evidence first in our words and behavior before any physical manifestation. Therefore the next step of faith is a proof that we believe. You cannot say you are taking a flight to another country tomorrow and sit down and not do anything to show you really are going somewhere. If you are serious that you are travelling, you would book a ticket, pack your bags, find out the time of your flight, and travel down to the airport before the time. So anyone that sees you knows that you are seriously traveling without you even talking about it.

Now when you say you believe in something, then where is the evidence? If there is no evidence in both your words and actions, then your faith is not yet real, thus don’t expect any results. If I gave you a check of a million dollars, you certainly would already feel and behave like a millionaire without even cashing it yet, even though the bank can still reject it.

When Peter was asked to walk on water, he had to take a step out of the boat onto the water; that was an evidence of his faith (Matthew 14:29). So there must be a physical evidence to your faith. The evidence of your faith positions you for a physical manifestation of the spiritual substance. Faith has only finished its course when what you are believing for has become physically tangible.

So with faith, you must create an imaginary picture of what you are believing for, such that its reality is so tangible within you that it alters the way you think, see, and do things. Those are the steps of faith. But remember, faith can only work when backed up with God’s Word. That was why Peter told Jesus to ask him to come first. He needed His Words as a foundation to walk on water. The scripture says “And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water” (Matthew 14:28). So you have to take steps of faith on God’s Word. Have a blessed day.
