REVEALING GOD DEVOTIONAL - LITTLE FOXES

Praise God for another glorious day. Today let’s start with Song of Solomon 2:15 which says, “Take us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.” This verse opened my eyes to see that many of the problems we face in life today are not predominantly caused by the big ones but by the small ones. Most times, big problems are simply small problems that have grown out of hand. Come to think of it, all big problems were once small problems.

This is the same thing about the little foxes in our lives. We never really deal with them quickly until they have caused us irreparable damage. For example, Moses had an anger problem. It was recorded in the scriptures that he became angry many times, but he ignored this little fox until it caused him to disobey God at the peak of his relationship with Him. God commanded Moses to speak to a rock in order to give the Israelites water, but rather in anger he struck it. This caused him not to enter into the Promised Land, Canaan (Numbers 20:7-11).

There are many problems that we get used to in life because we underestimate them or we give up hope on resolving them without really giving them a fight till the end. This is just like the man in the scriptures who had been sick for thirty-eight years. He had lost all hope of getting healed and therefore laid there as a spectator. From his reply to Jesus, it can be deduced that this man had lost all hope of getting healed and was prepared to live the rest of his life like that (John 5:3-8). Likewise, there are many people who have given up hope concerning some little foxes in their lives and are willing to eventually allow their problems become part of their lives.

Sometimes, these little foxes might be at the root cause of many other problems that we might be facing in life, because many things we are facing today are just symptoms of a main problem. For instance, the fact that you have a headache might not always be because of the headache itself but might be as a consequence of a fever or something else. So treating the headache alone will not cure it but might only suppress it for a while. Likewise, many problems we are dealing with presently are just the symptoms of a main problem. Therefore it would seem we will never have rest from them. But if we must put a stop to this kind of problems, we must deal with the primary cause first.

You must not misunderstand me and think I am saying you must try to resolve every problem you face on your own, because there are three things you can do with a problem:

1. Ignore them by doing nothing about them,

2. Use your God-given authority to address them,

3. Or trust God to handle them by asking Him through prayer.

The kind of problems you must ignore are problems that are distractions from doing God’s Will. Because like it or not, as long as we are in this present world there will be problems. And if you try to resolve them all, they can derail you from doing God’s Will. We cannot categorize these kinds of problems as little foxes because little foxes are actually problems that slow us down from progressing spiritually and physically in life or fulfilling destiny — and not just every problem.

Why not take out time to pray to God for direction on what to do about that overdue little fox in your life? I know God will give you the grace and wisdom to deal with it. Have a blessed day.
