REVEALING GOD DEVOTIONAL - UNLOCKING THE IMPOSSIBLE
Wow! It is another busy week. The year is already counting down quickly, but I pray we will make the best use of it. That is why I feel today’s discussion will be helpful in making it count.
There are many things that the world has deemed impossible, but as a Christian nothing should really be impossible because the scripture says, “With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27). Therefore, as Christians, we should never see any situation as impossible. If there is a situation that seems impossible, it should be seen as a difficult situation which has a solution in God rather than an impossible one.
Jesus gave three ways of opening any kind of door, and these He said are asking, seeking, and knocking. Knocking is the highest level for opening doors, especially doors that seem impossible. So if you have been asking and seeking and have not gotten any answer yet, then you must resolve to knocking. The scripture says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Luke 11:9).
I know at this point many of you will like to know what knocking is, and why it is different from asking and seeking. Jesus gave this answer in a parable just before He quoted Luke 11:9. Jesus said to His disciples, “Which of you, having a friend, would go to him in the middle of the night and say to him, Friend, let me have three loaves of bread; because a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to put before him? And he, from inside the house, would say in answer, Do not be a trouble to me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; it is not possible for me to get up and give to you? I say to you, Though he will not get up and give to him, because he is his friend, still, if he keeps on making his request, he will get up and give him as much as he has need of” (Luke 11:5-8).
In this parable, Jesus reveals how knocking could get a shut door opened. His friend had many reasons to turn him down when he came knocking at midnight asking for something. In fact, he used those reasons initially as an excuse not to answer him. He had said it was late and his children were asleep, but the man that needed help did not just give up no matter how many times he was turned down, neither did he allow his friend’s excuses to stop him. So his friend, who had first said it was impossible to give him what he needed, had to make it possible because the man kept knocking. When the man had asked and sought his friend’s help and did not get any positive response, he switched to knocking. The fact that you ask and get an answer does not automatically translate to resolving a problem, whether the answer is yes or no. The friend had said no at a point, but when his friend was consistently knocking, that changed his mind to yes. We must understand that in some cases, even when we ask and get an answer, that still might not get us the solution. It is what we consistently or diligently do with what we know that will be needed to resolve that problem. Because there are some problems that require just one application of the answer to get a result, and there are others that will require constant application of the answer to get a result. And most of the time these are the problems that people deem impossible.
So looking through the scriptures, I find only one key to unlocking such seemingly impossible doors — that is the key of consistency or diligence. That is what births breakthrough. Because sometimes you might be doing something which you know is right but initially it might just seem as if it is not working. But just as a constant application of a hammer on a surface will eventually get you a penetration, so does the principle of consistency. From the parable of Jesus, it was the man’s consistency that gave him a breakthrough, and it is what will give you that breakthrough in that situation that seems impossible.
Many Christians might actually have a sound knowledge of the truth but due to a lack of consistency, they might not get results from what they know. A sick person does not just take his drugs when he wants, but has to take them consistently for them to be effective. If he stops taking his drugs for a while and then wants to start again, he will need to restart the whole dose. The point is that many Christians give up before the time of their breakthrough because they just give in to the pressure around them or just get tired. I can promise you that the closer you are to your breakthrough, the more challenging it gets. But the scripture says, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” (Hebrews 10:35-36).
The truth is that many Christians lack patience, therefore allowing the pressure of a world that loves the fast life to influence their minds. As a result, people easily give up on the things that ought to be and try anything they think might get them that breakthrough faster without going through the needed process. By this, they are never steadfast in doing what is right till what is right makes things right. I know the time of patience can seem very difficult, but you must understand that your waiting on the right path will never be in vain. The scripture says, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Thomas Edison, the man well known for inventing the light bulb, failed over a 1000 times in his attempt to his breakthrough. If he had stopped at the 999th time, we would not have known him today for anything. The mark of greatness is born from consistently doing the right thing. Therefore, let us work on building the fruit of patience, and we will see that what seems impossible will surely become possible. Have a blessed day!

In Jesus’ parable in Luke 11:5-8, He said that the door was only opened for the man not only because of his consistency but also because he was his friend. You can be a friend of God today by becoming born again. If you are not born again you can do so today by saying this simple prayer below out with your mouth in faith, believing that Jesus Christ died and rose again for your sins.
Prayer for Salvation:
Dear Lord, I believe Jesus died and rose again for me. Forgive me my sins and come into my life. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Thank you Father for doing this for me. Reveal yourself to me today. In Jesus name, Amen.
