REVEALING GOD DEVOTIONAL - MEETING WITH THE MAKER

Praise God for another wonderful opportunity to share God’s Word with you. I believe God will today open new doors of opportunities of His goodness using this medium. So I just want to start by saying that there is something God expects from every Christian more than just keeping His commandments. Many Christians make the mistake of thinking that being born again is all about keeping a set of instructions, and that is really just the secondary reason for our salvation. There was a time in my life I fell into this same error. I was keeping God’s commandments as best as I could and was so focused on that that it started to affect my relationship with God. And that is religion. Religion is simply obedience without a relationship with God, but true Christianity is a life of relationship with God, which has its fruits as good works. So what I noticed when I was in that position was that my Christian life was becoming more of a struggle. So God told me in a prophecy the reason why — that I needed to be in fellowship with Him. So that is what I will share with you today.

When we look at the beginning of creation, we will notice that one of the things God did was that He came at the cool of the day to fellowship with Adam. It was during that time that they talked, and God instructed him on what to do. So we can see that our fellowship with God is a primary and vital necessity to live a successful Christian life. I think Christians will fall into less error if they have a good fellowship with God, because through it we will be able to receive God’s instructions and directions directly.

Nevertheless, when mankind sinned against God, his communication with God was hindered because man had become dead spiritually and started to lose all discernment of spiritual things until he eventually lost it all and became carnal. God testified of this saying, “My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh” (Genesis 6:3).

Apparently, this is what has led mankind to establish all kinds of religion, because religion is just one of the ways mankind has developed to try to communicate with God. The scripture says, “then began men to call upon the name of the LORD” (Genesis 4:26), which means that due to the spiritual gap between God and man, mankind adopted a system of prayer to try to communicate with God. Whereas God used to talk directly to mankind just as a man talks to his friend — that was how it was with God and Adam.

God is a Spirit (John 4:24), and if mankind must properly fellowship with Him again, they needed a restoration of their spirit man. This was why God made a way out through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ, that by faith in His finished works, anyone can have a regenerated spirit that is once again in the image of God. This experience is termed “Born Again.” The scripture says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).

Anything we do without first getting born again will simply fall into the category of religion, and religion can’t save. That was why Jesus still told a religious priest, Nicodemus, that he needed to be Born Again (John 3:3). So I just want to encourage anyone that has not received Jesus as their Lord and Saviour to take this opportunity to do so today by saying the short prayer below in faith, because God is calling them to have fellowship with Him. The scripture says, “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:9).

Nevertheless, my main point in this message is to make known the fact that even after many people get Born Again, they still don’t fellowship with God, and this makes their Christianity just a religion. God wants to be more than just your Lord and Saviour, but also a Father and a friend. Christianity is not a religion, but it is a relationship with God. If not, God would just have called us servants, but yet He calls us sons and daughters (John 1:12). So we must not see Christianity as if it were just work, or that we are trying to keep a set of rules, or that we want to escape the horror of eternal death. These are just some of the benefits of it. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15), which means Jesus is not saying we should keep His commandments first, then love Him, but first love Him, that we can keep His commandments properly. Because people will gladly do anything for those they love. And that is why we must understand that it is during fellowship with God that we can birth His passion for saving souls and doing His Will. The fact is that who you spend time with will determine the outcome of your life, which is why you must be careful in life to choose who you want to be friends with.

However, true love is built through fellowship. Any love that is otherwise will only be a superficial love. That is why every good relationship starts with communication, because it is during that time the discovery of the other person can be made, and it can then be established whether he or she can be a friend or not.

Imagine if you saw a person that looked very good to be a friend, and thus you drew near to start a relationship. It will only be after talking with him or her for some time that that friendship can be determined, because you will not want to continue fellowshipping with someone you discover you don’t like his or her character. It is natural that no one fellowships with his enemies. The only kind of fruit that will come out of it will only be strife, deceit and quarrel. The point is that every relationship we had or will have in life will either make us better or bitter — better if it is good, and bitter if it turns out bad.

Having established this fact, we can then understand that we can’t really be close to God and know Him if we don’t spend time in fellowship with Him as Christians. God doesn’t just have love, but He is the definition of love, as the scripture says, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). So getting to know Him will surely not be regrettable. Paul, one of the greatest Apostles of his time said this, “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ; That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” (Philippians 3:8, 10).

Now, if you are wondering how you can fellowship with God, then let me quickly enumerate some ways you can do so from the scripture, which says, “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42).

1. By Studying the Word of God (Apostles’ Doctrines)

2. In Christian Gathering (Fellowship)

3. Through the Holy Communion (Breaking of Bread)

4. In Prayer and Worship

The scripture says, “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3).

So I believe we can now understand that our fellowship with God is very important, because it is the only way we can truly live as Christians. A Christian cannot be having fellowship with God and be comfortably living in sin, as the scripture says, “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth” (1 John 1:6), and “Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?” (Psalms 94:20)? I pray you have a blessed day and take out time to meet with your Maker, God. God bless.

Nevertheless, if you are not born again you can do so today by saying this simple prayer below out with your mouth in faith, believing that Jesus Christ died and rose again for your sins.

Prayer for Salvation

Dear Lord, I believe Jesus died and rose again for me. Forgive me my sins and come into my life. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Thank you Father for doing this for me. Reveal yourself to me today. In Jesus name, Amen.

Congrats, your status has changed to that of a child of God, if you said this prayer in faith.
