THE PRICE FOR THE CURSE - 2

Praise God for another day. Today, let us continue on our discussion on God’s great deliverance from the curse. We revealed how without the blessing, we will be limited as Christians in fulfilling our destiny. We also discussed on how the curse opens a resistance to our destiny.

Now, let us see how we can activate the blessing in our lives because it is not automatically activated, even though it is present when you get born again. The first step of getting connected to the blessing is to be born again, because our faith in Jesus connects us to Abraham’s blessing, as the scripture says, “So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham” (Galatians 3:9), and “to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ” (Galatians 3:16).

Jesus was that promised seed from the lineage of Abraham. Therefore, I encourage anyone that has not received Him into their lives in order to become born again, to please do so today, because it is for their own good. There will be an opportunity to do so at the end of this discussion.

We must realize that faith in the blessing is different from faith in Jesus Christ. The two are different entities which we need to believe in, but many Christians don’t know this. The fact that a Christian believes in Jesus Christ and got saved will not automatically grant them the blessing. This is why we have many Christians that are still walking under a curse of lack, sickness and bad relationships, etc. What we must do to activate the blessing is to enforce it by faith.

In the Old Testament, they had to activate the blessing by keeping all of God’s commandments. Therefore, if they failed in just one of the laws, they were automatically under a curse. But apparently, many Christians still have an Old Testament mentality of trying to use the law to obtain the blessing, and their faith standing on that belief creates a way for a curse to work in their lives, even when they are born again. The scripture says, “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them” (Galatians 3:10).

Another thing that allows the curse to work in a Christian’s life is when they have faith in the curse more than in the blessing. From the region of the world I come from, which is in Africa, people grow up with the mindset that curses are real, and that a traditional doctor or an agent of the devil can invoke one against a person. But you have to understand that when you got born again, you accepted that Jesus paid a ransom for you by His shed blood on the cross. That blood bought you just as you are with all your sins, and therefore that gives the devil no right to accuse you of any sin, because curses do not come on anyone without a reason. The scripture says, “As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come” (Proverbs 26:2).

Anyone that tries to curse you as a Christian will only be trying to curse Jesus, and it is obvious that Jesus can’t be cursed. So if you choose to put your faith in the curse rather than the blessing, the devil or men will easily be able to establish a curse against you. And once these curses are established, they must be broken. I will show you from the Word of God one way you can do that as we go on in this discussion.

What I want you to know and believe from this discussion is that once you are born again, the devil or any man cannot put curses on you without God’s or your permission, because no one can curse what God has blessed. That is why we see the devil resort to subtle means to deceive Adam and Eve to disobey God, in order for God to curse them Himself (Genesis 3).

In another example, the scripture tells of how Balak, a Moab King, who was afraid of Israel because of the mighty things God had done through them, resorted to curses in warring against them, because he knew he could not war against them physically and win. This is the same strategy that the devil is using to destroy many destinies today without them knowing what is going on.

In this example the people of Israel didn’t know what was happening behind the scene; they did not know that someone was trying to curse them. Balak had sent for a man, Balaam, who was believed to have the power to bless and curse, and probably this man was a prophet of some kind, because he had a relationship with God. He prayed to God, and God talked with him, and even showed him visions and gave him prophecies, but the man was covetous. So this man, Balaam, was employed by Balak to curse Israel. The three different times he tried to curse them, he could not. Rather he started to bless them. He said, “How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?” (Numbers 23:8), and “Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!” (Numbers 23:23).

Therefore, he could not curse Israel, as long as they were with God, even when they were not aware of what was going on. Likewise, as a Christian, once you can establish your faith in the blessing, this will also be your reality. When you are walking in the reality of this truth, anyone that blesses you becomes blessed, and anyone that curses you becomes cursed, because that is part of the function of the blessing of which we are partakers. God said to Abraham, “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:3).

Consequently, Balaam resorted to giving a devilish hint to Balak on how to curse Israel, saying, “He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them” (Numbers 23:19-21). In other words, he was saying as long as Israel was not sinning against God, God will not permit a curse to come upon them.

So by wiles, Balak caused some of Israel to worship their gods and commit fornication with their women. That made God angry with Israel, and thus He caused a plague that killed about 24,000 of them (Numbers 25). The scripture said God told Moses, “Vex the Midianites, and smite them: For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake” (Numbers 25:17-18).

The trick the devil used against Adam in causing them to disobey God was what he used again against the Israelites, and yet still he is using these wiles against many Christians today in order to hinder the blessing from functioning. So even though faith in the blessing removes a Christian from the devil’s table of affliction of curses, it is not a wild card to live in sin. If we continue to disobey God, even when we claim to believe in the blessing, we are then not actually living by faith, because when we look at Abraham’s faith, it was translated into his obedience to God. Therefore, REAL FAITH = TOTAL OBEDIENCE.

At the same time we steer up God’s anger to punish us when we are living in disobedience. God’s punishment in this dispensation is not to condemn us, but to correct us. When this is happening, we must not think the devil is the one doing it. Sometimes it is because God is dealing with us to obey Him. Therefore, look at your life, check if you are actually in the Will of God. The Psalmist said, “My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness. I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads. Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy: That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it. Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice” (Psalms 109:24-28).

Our obedience to God is God’s way of leading us into the blessing, just as He led the Israelites into the Promised Land. The delay in their blessing was due to their disobedience because the journey into their blessing, which was to take only some few days, ended up taking them 40 years.

God also led Abraham into the blessing as He started by commanding him to first leave his father’s house, and he did (Genesis 12:1). He finally entered into the blessing when God asked him to sacrifice his only son. While he was trying to do so, God stopped him and gave him the covenant of an everlasting blessing, saying, “By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies” (Genesis 22:16-17).

The point of this discussion is to show you that curses are no more your portion, if you can simply believe that Christ has redeemed you from it. Nevertheless, if you are a Christian and feel that a curse is working in your life, you can destroy its effect by standing on the Word of God, and maintaining that confession, saying to yourself, “I am redeemed from all curses by the blood sacrifice of Jesus, in order to be blessed” (Galatians 3:13-14).

Just keep saying this until you feel you have an inner witness that that curse is broken. You don’t need to suffer for what Jesus has paid for by ignorance or a lack of faith. We need to apply the knowledge of God we have acquired today to fight a good warfare to gain victory over the devil’s wiles. Even though we receive a Word of prophecy from God does not mean that those things will automatically come to pass, if we don’t enforce them by doing our part n faith. Paul told Timothy, “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare” (1 Timothy 1:18). So let us walk in the blessing by faith, and abolish the mentality of the curse. So have a blessed day.
