THE LIGHT OF LIFE - 1
Light is a very important thing to mankind because without it, life will be totally out of balance — or I can even say it will be at a standstill — because no one can do anything about what they can’t see. I remember once in the scriptures when God, by the hand of Moses, caused three days of darkness in the land of Egypt. The scripture says, “They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days” (Exodus 10:23). The scripture also tells us that before the earth was recreated, it was in total darkness (Genesis 1:2), and because of that there was chaos. Darkness always brings chaos and disorderliness wherever it is found.
This is why, when we look at the beginning of creation, we notice that the first thing God did before He started creating anything was to say, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3). It is just common sense that what anyone who enters into a dark room would first do is to switch on the light or light a candle. If not, when he enters the room, he would bump into a lot of surprises — especially when it is a room he has never entered before. And even though it was a room he has entered before, but some things were moved after he last came in, he would not know until there is light. This just illustrates how important light is. But nevertheless, there is another kind of light that is even more important, and that is the light of life.
When we look at the scriptures, we will notice that the first light God initially created was different from that of the sun because it was not until the fourth day that God created the sun, moon, and stars to give natural light to the earth (Genesis 1:14-17). There is a natural light which we are all accustomed to, and there is a spiritual light which is the actual light of life. This is the light man lost when he sinned against God, and thus was dumped into spiritual darkness. Spiritual darkness is a form of blindness that paralyzes and derails a person from the path of life, and this was what happened to mankind after the fall. Mankind began to see the spiritual world as a myth or as something less important. Moreover, mankind was now limited to seeing only the natural things of life and thus walked in a darkness that is void of God’s presence.
Now the coming of Jesus Christ to earth was to restore the spiritual light that man lost through Adam’s sin by the means of the preaching of the gospel. In Him was the life that brought the light that mankind needed to see and follow God in this life. The scripture says, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4). And Jesus said again, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).
Therefore anyone that gets born again is lighted up to walk through this life on a dark road to fulfill destiny. Because I tell you, you cannot fulfill destiny without seeing clearly in this dark world. So we need light to shine. We need God’s light to do great things for God. You can’t light a candle and put it under your bed, but rather you light a candle so that you can put it on top of a table so that everyone in the room would be able to see with its light. Likewise, when you are a Christian you are made a light to your world, because when you are lighted up, the world will see you and come to you, just as insects are attracted to lights. The scripture says, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).
We will continue on this thought tomorrow. However, The first step of having God’s light is to be Born Again. If you are not born again, you can do so right now by asking Jesus in a simple prayer to come into your life to be your Lord and Saviour (Romans 10:9). So say the prayer below in faith to do so right now.
Prayer for Salvation
Dear Lord, I believe Jesus died and rose again for me. Forgive me my sins and come into my life. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Wash me with your precious blood. Thank you Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
