PURE IN HEART – 7
Purification by Love
Praise God for another wonderful day to share a thought with you. Today, we will be concluding our discussion on having a pure heart. We have been talking about the importance of having a pure heart and how we can purify the heart. We will now go further to talk about the last way we can purify our heart.
One of the evidences of a purified heart is that out of it flows love — love for God and love for others. And since God is love (1 John 4:8), that means walking in love is walking like God. And if walking in love is walking in God, we certainly cannot be anything but holy when we work in love. The scripture says, “By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for” (Proverbs 16:6 ESV).
When we walk in love as Christians, having different backgrounds and different levels of spiritual maturity, we can fellowship with each other with our difference and yet live in peace, which give room for forgiveness and mercy, resulting to spiritual cleansing of the members. The scripture says, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
Furthermore, we cannot be walking in love and not walk on this earth like a little god, because a Christian that is walking in love will naturally flow with the power of God. Therefore, if our faith and obedience do not tend to love, it is bound to fall into error. The scripture says, “Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned” (1 Timothy 1:5).
A Christianity without love is just a false religion, which is no different from a gathering of people to watch a film at a cinema. The scripture says, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27).
If we seek to walk in love, then we are seeking to be purified. Therefore, let us learn to walk in love because a born-again person already possesses a spirit of love (2 Timothy 1:7), but must learn how to grow it out to actions. This can be achieved by studying the Word of Truth to know more of God and learn his ways of love, and then afterwards, practise what they have learnt in genuine concern for others. So why don’t you reach out to others in love today?
Conclusion
By now, we see that our purification as a Christian is very important and that we have our part to play in achieving it. Also, we now know that the process of purification starts when a person gets born again, and from that point we need to concentrate on purifying our heart to achieve total purification. We also need to purify ourselves to be assured of our eternal salvation, so let us seek after the purification of our hearts once we are born again. Have a blessed day!
