4 Levels of the Word

Seeing the Word

Praise God for another day to share a thought with you today. We state that there are 4 levels of engagement that anyone can have with the Word of God. The Scripture says, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life” (1 John 1:1).

This verse enumerates the 4 levels of engagement as:

1. Hearing God’s Word (Which we have heard)

2. Seeing God’s Word Work (Which we have seen with our eyes)

3. Observing the Dynamics of God’s Word (Which we have looked upon)

4. Exercising God’s Word by Use (Which our hands have handled)

We have talked about hearing in our last devotional. Today, we will talking “Seeing the Word”.

Hearing something creates an opportunity for you to either believe it or not, or to seek to believe it. But when you reach the level of experiencing or seeing the manifestation of what was spoken, you have no choice but to believe. That is why, even though the Pharisees hated Jesus and wanted to discredit Him, they could not deny the evidence of the miracles He performed; they could only lie that He was doing it through the power of the devil (Matthew 9:34).

Hearing is the quickest way to receive information, but sometimes it requires us to patiently step out of our comfort zones to prove it. That was what the Queen of Sheba did when she heard about King Solomon, and Jesus noted that her action was wise (Luke 11:31).

After hearing of the wisdom and glory of King Solomon, the Queen of Sheba traveled all the way from her faraway country in the south to verify what she had heard. When she saw it, she said, “It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom. Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard” (1 Kings 10:6–7).

When we move from hearing to seeing, we enter the realm of faith, becoming certain of the truth beyond a shadow of a doubt. Even if an angel comes to tell you otherwise, you will not be easily moved to doubt.

Moreover, what we hear might not fully describe reality. The Queen of Sheba realized that the reports she heard did not even cover the half of what she witnessed with her own eyes.

So let us press forward to realm of seeing God’s Word by studying and meditating on God’s Word until it becomes a reality.

Today’s Reading:

1 Kings 10, 1 John 1:1-4, Proverbs 8-10

Nevertheless, if you are not born again, you can accept Christ today by saying this simple prayer out loud in faith, believing that Jesus Christ died and rose again for your sins:

Prayer for Salvation

“Dear Lord, I believe Jesus died and rose again for me. Forgive me my sins and come into my life. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You, Father, for doing this for me. Reveal Yourself to me today. In Jesus' name, Amen.”

Congratulations! Your status has changed to that of a child of God if you said this prayer in faith.
