STRENGTH FOR THE BATTLE – 4: Spiritual Strength

Bless God for another wonderful day to share a thought with you. Remember that God loves you no matter what you are facing, and He will see you through it all. Today, let us continue our discussion by focusing on spiritual strength, which is the ultimate kind of strength.

The Ultimate Source of Victory

Spiritual strength is essential if we are to be assuredly victorious in life's battles. The true battles of life are not physical; they are spiritual, even though they may appear physical to the natural mind. That is why the Scripture says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12).

Because the battles of life are spiritual in nature, we need spiritual weapons and a spiritual supply of strength—something high-carbohydrate food or energy drinks cannot provide. When a person learns how to tap into spiritual strength, they position themselves to overcome every battle they face.

What we must know is where our ultimate source of strength lies and how to tap into it. As Christians, our source of strength can only be from God. One key way He provides this strength is through His Word, which is the true source of spiritual nourishment while also giving practical principles for successful living. Many Christians manage to adopt its principles without tapping into its supply of strength. The Scripture says, “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)” (2 Corinthians 10:4).

Counterfeit Strength vs. Divine Power

The people of this world often recognize the principle of spiritual power, but they pursue it through the wrong channels—offering sacrifices to idols, which are actually demons in disguise, to empower themselves. Almost every spiritual opposition facing a person relies on some form of spiritual backing. But as a believer, you have access to the ultimate source of strength: God Himself.

It is the strength we draw from Him that enables us to use His spiritual weapons effectively. When the giant, Goliath, came against young David, cursing him by his gods, David relied on the strength of God. And with nothing more than a sling and a small stone, which can be considered as weak tools in the hands of an ordinary man, he defeated the giant. The Scripture says, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:10–11).

“...I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one” (1 John 2:14).

No weak Christian can effectively utilize spiritual weapons. When the devil seems too strong, it is often not that he is invincible, but that our inner strength is undeveloped. When your internal strength grows greater than the pressure of the enemy or the problem facing you, that obstacle loses its hold. Jesus explained this principle, saying, “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils” (Luke 11:21–22).

Scriptural Examples of Spiritual Strength

Scripture highlights the superiority of spiritual strength, showing how it enables believers to break through barriers even when natural ability falls short:

Elijah

drew on spiritual strength to outrun Ahab’s chariot on foot after the rain began (1 Kings 18:44–46).

Samson

, an ordinary man in physical stature, single-handedly defeated a thousand trained enemy soldiers using only the jawbone of a donkey (Judges 15:15). No man could accomplish this by natural power alone.

When we tap into the spiritual strength that comes from God, we operate beyond natural limits. Jesus said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

Just as physical food nourishes and sustains the body, the Word of God builds and fortifies the spirit. Seek after spiritual strength today rather than relying solely on what physical food and human effort can supply.
