The Light of the Word (Importance of Light)
There is something unique and special about light—it was the first thing God created when He began to recreate the earth: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3) 🌟 Light brings clarity and direction. There is something unique and special about light—it was the first thing God created when He began to recreate the earth:
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3)
🌟 Light brings clarity and direction.
No one can do anything meaningful in complete darkness. One of the ten plagues that Egypt experienced was thick darkness, and during that time, no one could function. Scripture says:
“And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.” (Exodus 10:22-23)
I remember trying to walk through my sitting room one dark evening to reach the light switch. Even though I could imagine where the furniture was, it was still difficult to navigate. Now imagine someone unfamiliar with the layout trying to do the same—it would be nearly impossible.
If you’ve ever dropped a needle or a key in the dark, it might be right beside you, but without light, it becomes difficult to find. Jesus illustrated this in a parable:
“Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?” (Luke 15:8)
🕯️ We need light to achieve anything meaningful in this world.
Scripture describes light as anything that reveals or exposes:
“But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.” (Ephesians 5:13)
The Word of God is our spiritual light. It guides us through life:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
✨ There is a deeper dimension to light—a spiritual one.
We live in a world where two kingdoms exist: the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. The kingdom of God is governed by truth and the Word of God, while the kingdom of darkness operates through deception and fear.
In the context of Ephesians 5:13, deception is a form of darkness because it blinds people from making informed decisions. Truth, on the other hand, exposes the works of Satan.
Anyone who is spiritually blind cannot recognize truth unless God reveals it. Saul, for example, thought he was serving God by persecuting Christians—until he encountered Jesus in a blinding light:
“And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven.” (Acts 9:3)
Paul later wrote:
“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
🕊️ The only way to be free from the power of darkness is to be born again.
Only then can we be delivered from Satan’s authority and enter the kingdom of light:
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” (Colossians 1:13)
So, get born again—become a child of light.
