Spiritual Imprisonment: Releasing the Light Within (The Light of the Word Series)
Spiritual Imprisonment: Releasing the Light Within Light can be trapped—restricted from emitting its full glory. Jesus warned against hiding our light: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:14–16 (KJV)

Spiritual Imprisonment: Releasing the Light Within
Light can be trapped—restricted from emitting its full glory. Jesus warned against hiding our light:
“Ye are the light of the world.
We are called to shine. Yet many believers live spiritually imprisoned—caged from expressing the fullness of God’s glory. A shining light is an impactful life.
The enemy’s mission is clear:
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…” — John 10:10a (KJV)
Satan seeks to steal the light of destinies. He did it with Adam and Eve—robbing them of God’s glory and leaving them in shame:
“Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” — Genesis 3:7 (KJV)
We are warned:
“Quench not the Spirit.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:19 (KJV)
When we allow the Spirit to be quenched, our light dims. But when we are born again, we are translated into the kingdom of light:
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” — Colossians 1:13 (KJV)
Our spirit is the candle of the Lord:
“The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” — Proverbs 20:27 (KJV)
The Spirit of God ignites us through faith in His Word. We are meant to shine brighter each day:
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” — Proverbs 4:18 (KJV)
🔥 How Do We Shine?
By faith through time spent in God’s presence—especially in prayer and speaking in tongues.
By transformation through the Spirit:
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)
By the Word, which is the only ingredient used in creation. Prayer is vital, but the Word is foundational.
We must focus on the Word—meditating and obeying it. Jesus said:
“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” — Matthew 6:22–23 (KJV)
Distraction dims our light. Lukewarmness makes us vulnerable to captivity:
“And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” — 2 Timothy 2:26 (KJV)
Jesus said:
“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” — John 7:38 (KJV)
That belly—our innermost being—is where the light flows. That’s why Scripture tells us to:
“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth…” — Ephesians 6:14a (KJV)
🕯️ Be the Candle of the Lord
To shine, you must be born again. Only then can your spirit be lit by God and shine in a dark world.
